A local SME based in Derby are searching for a Company Accountant to join their growing team on a permanent basis, to support them in the running of their day-to-day Finances for the company. This is a crucial role for the company, and you'll have various different responsibilities to ensure that all areas of Finance are on track, up to the Management Accounts point. If you also have experience in pulling together monthly Management Accounts then even better!

You will work closely with the Finance Consultant who currently prepares the Monthly Management Accounts, and also with the Owner who you will report to on a day-to-day basis.

What is the job?

  • Bank Reconciliations: Ensure all transactions are accurately recorded and discrepancies are addressed, maintaining up-to-date and accurate bank records.
  • Invoicing: Manage the invoicing process efficiently, including the preparation and distribution of sales invoices.
  • Purchase Invoices: Handle purchase invoices meticulously, ensuring that all supplier invoices are recorded accurately and payments are processed on time.
  • Accounts Payable and Receivable: Oversee the accounts payable and receivable functions, managing supplier payments, and customer collections to maintain healthy cash flow.
  • General Ledger Maintenance: Assist in maintaining the general ledger, ensuring all entries are accurate and up-to-date.
  • Month-End Closing: assist in the month-end closing process by preparing journal entries, reconciling accounts, and ensuring all data is accurately reported.
  • Ad hoc Financial Analysis: Prepare various financial reports and analysis as/when required, including sales and purchases analysis.
  • VAT Return Records: Maintain good records required for the VAT Returns.
  • Ad hoc Support: Providing any ad hoc analysis, reports or figures as requested by colleagues across the business.

What we're looking for?

  • You should be a good 'all-rounder' with the ability to run purchase ledger, sales ledger, accounts payable and receivable simultaneously.
  • You'll need to be self-motivated and use your initiative to decide how to prioritise work based on deadlines both internally and externally.
  • Great communication skills are also a must. Being an SME, you will be the go to person for any Finance queries so you'll need to be able to deal with these in a friendly manner.

  • Salary of £25,000 - £35,000 (depending on experience)
