Management Accountant

My client is a global manufacturing company located in Gloucester. This business unit is a key component of a Global group, whose products are shipped throughout the globe.

Key Accountability's and Outputs

The role will report to the Financial Controller. The principal tasks will be:

  • Work closely with the wider stakeholders within the business to seek to understand their reporting requirements and help design/implement the management information framework which the business requires to succeed and to continue to be a world class supplier. This will be critical in helping the Senior Management team make informed policy decisions and improve the efficiency of operations
  • Understand the strengths and weaknesses of the current standard costing and management reporting framework and work with the business to provide resolution for weaknesses in a concise, appropriate and timely manner
  • Perform Root Cause analysis to gain an understanding of process control and what "Good " looks like. You have a blank sheet of paper and a real opportunity to work with the Continuous Improvement Manager to design and implement processes and process control, including process mapping, making and implementing recommendations and performing continuous monitoring of process effectiveness
  • Set up weekly/monthly efficiency variance reporting and price variance reporting
  • Help the business manage and understand its key financial indicators.
  • Working Capital management - setting up of review processes and calculating KPIs
  • Review sales contracts to ensure that the timing of Revenue recognition is appropriate based on contractual milestones
  • Prepare and maintain Liquidated Damages schedules and warranty schedules, working closely with the business and communicating risks and opportunities
  • Ad Hoc project responsibilities defined by the financial controller
  • Profit and Loss account preparation
  • Balance Sheet reconciliation, including bank reconciliations and monthly journal preparation and posting
  • Maintenance of the fixed asset register
  • Monthly Accruals and Prepayments, including stock
  • Intercompany accounting, raising of intercompany monthly invoices and reconciliation
  • VAT return / ECC Sales and Intrastat submissions
  • Accurate accounting of the foreign offices and co-ordination of funding requirements
  • Supporting the Financial Controller with various reporting needs
  • Supporting the Credit controller as required
  • Working closely with other members of the finance team and offering support as required
  • Liaise with Auditors

Desired Skills, Experience and Attributes

  • Highly competent and ambitious individual with a desire to continue learning and develop a career in Finance
  • CIMA/ACCA newly qualified accountant (part qualified as a minimum) preferably with a manufacturing background
  • Strong technical management accounting skills
  • A strong understanding of financial process and control
  • Proactive and hands on individual who will be a key support to the other finance roles
  • Excellent excel skills and IT skills (experience of a stock management system an advantage)
  • Used to working under pressure and meeting deadlines
  • Ability to both collaborate and challenge the status quo
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to deal with Staff at all levels throughout the business
  • Articulate and numerate
  • Methodical and organised
  • A team player
