Very Senior Business Development Manager (Global Financial Services) - Premier Global Law Firm

An outstanding opportunity has arisen for a highly experienced Business Development professional to join one of the world's premier global law firms to lead their Global Financial Services sector.

The firm has an ambitious global strategy which puts clients at the very heart of everything they do and have a clear mandate to develop existing strengths and relationships whilst also increasing market share in new markets. The firm's marketing and business development function is seen as pivotal in making this strategy a reality. The team works strategically with the partnership with the aim of making the firm the global law firm of choice for the world's leading businesses. The Global Financial Services Sector is a key sector of the firm and significant investment has been, and will continue to be, made to further enhance the firm's capabilities across their network. It is a group with great ambitions, making bold choices and with growth in mind, and this role will play an integral part in delivering on the sector's objectives and plans for the future. The sector team is at the forefront of advising financial institutions on the impact that fintech and the broader digitisation of financial services is having across the sector. The Global Financial Services sector is a multi-disciplinary team of highly experienced lawyers who provide innovative legal advice, with expertise across all practice areas. The firm have a long history of advising the leading global banks, asset managers, insurers and market-infrastructure providers on their business-critical projects and the sector team advises on own account and advisory mandates, in addition to underlying products and services. You will line manage a member of the marketing and business development team, ensuring their development through coaching, appraisals and mentoring, and will be expected to raise the bar of the rest of the team in the way that they support the group and help their teams to build stronger client relationships and profiles in the market. Ensuring effective marketing spend in line with budget, the successful applicant will work across key product areas and key offices to oversee the delivery of a truly global strategy, with a particular focus on the development of key client relationships. You will be required to ensure the firm is viewed as a market leader in the Financial Services sector and its sub-sectors globally. You will manage all financial and wider business activities in the sector, acting as a point of contact between Sector Leads and stakeholders providing insight into the most essential projects, and will support the leadership in the creation and execution of the sector business development and marketing plan. Leveraging the Client Insight and Business Intelligence Team to provide insight on clients and sectors to inform strategic marketing decisions and support client development, the Senior Business Development Manager will lead and work on must-win, matter-specific proposals and manage cross practice pitches for key global strategic clients. You will be directly involved in the client programme and related initiatives, including driving and supporting disciplined client outreach and client relationship activity and fostering a strong client feedback and client listening culture across sectors. On the marketing side, the successful applicant will work with the Brand, Communications and Marketing team to raise the profile of the firm's Financial Services capabilities in key markets across the spectrum of marketing and PR channels. In addition, the role holder will be responsible for overseeing and delivering several international flagship events and for ensuring best practice is being implemented across the legal directory process with the aim of protecting top tier rankings and improving on others.

In order to perform this senior role successfully, an ideal candidate will have extensive experience in business development, preferably gained within a law firm or professional services environment or within the Financial Services sector, to include a proven track record of developing and executing successful business development and marketing strategies and initiatives. A highly motivated self-starter with excellent relationship-building, communication and presentation skills. the Senior Business Development Manager will be confident, articulate, resilient and focused. A thorough knowledge of the Financial Services sector and strong leadership and team management abilities will also be essential.
