Position: Residential Childcare Worker
Location: Rochdale
Salary: £12.21 -£13.10 per hour (depending on qualifications and experience)
Hours: Full-time (35-40 hours per week) including weekends and sleep-ins (£50 per sleep-in)

Overview

P4 is currently working with a client who has an exciting opportunity, that has arisen for a compassionate and committed Residential Childcare Worker to join a nurturing and growing children's care provider in the Rochdale area. The role offers the chance to make a genuine difference in the lives of vulnerable children and young people aged 10 to 18 who have experienced early-life trauma. The organisation is dedicated to creating a safe, supportive, and enriching environment that encourages growth, healing, and independence.

Key Responsibilities

Childcare Provision

  • Build strong, positive relationships with children and young people to support their emotional, physical, and social development.
  • Contribute to care plans, attend reviews, and keep Looked After Children (LAC) documentation accurate and up to date.
  • Provide consistent, trauma-informed care and advocate for children's needs.
  • Promote independence by supporting young people with tasks like budgeting, cooking, and personal care.
  • Encourage engagement in activities and help build positive support networks.
  • Work in line with regulatory requirements and promote equality, inclusion, and safeguarding at all times.

Staff and Team Support

  • Support daily management and shift planning, and contribute to team meetings and training.
  • Guide and mentor junior colleagues while upholding best practices and professional standards.
  • Ensure effective communication and collaboration with the management team and external professionals.

Home Operations

  • Contribute to the effective management of resources, including budgets and household safety.
  • Maintain a clean, secure, and welcoming environment.
  • Complete health and safety checks and report any maintenance needs or incidents.

Professional Development

  • Engage in ongoing training and development opportunities.
  • Take responsibility for personal learning and remain current with childcare legislation and best practices.
  • Participate in regular supervision and performance reviews.

Candidate Profile

Essential Attributes

  • Experience working with children or young people in residential or therapeutic settings.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Calm, empathetic, and resilient in challenging situations.
  • Flexible and willing to work a variety of shifts including sleep-ins, weekends, and holidays.
  • Previous residential childcare, minimum 12 months.
  • Knowledge of Children's Homes Regulations 2015, The Children Act, and trauma-informed approaches such as PACE.
  • Level 3 QCF Diploma in Residential Childcare or equivalent (or willingness to work toward qualification).
  • Full UK driving licence (preferred but not essential)
