4 day week - Wednedsday, Thursday, Friday & Saturday 9am - 5:30pm

Customs Clearance Operator Key Responsibilities:

  • Customs Declarations: Complete customs declarations and ensure that all import and export clearance processes are executed accurately and promptly, adhering to compliance requirements.
  • Administrative Support: Provide professional and effective administrative support to the Customs Clearing and Multimodal Team.
  • Day-to-Day Operations: Manage and process customs clearances for all air, sea, and road freight shipments, including EADs (Export Accompanying Documents) and T1s. Create, manage, and maintain accurate documentation as cases progress.
  • Data Accuracy: Ensure accuracy in data input and maintain detailed records.
  • Customer Enquiries: Address customer inquiries in writing, in person, or by phone, providing precise advice and estimates as needed.
  • External Communication: Communicate with external organizations, such as HMRC, Port Authorities, Shipping Lines, and Hauliers, via telephone or written correspondence.
  • Documentation: Obtain necessary Bills of Lading and determine correct tariff headings.

Customs Clearance Operator Skills Required:

  • Experience: Prior experience in a similar role is advantageous, though comprehensive training will be provided.
  • Customs Declarations: Familiarity with HMRC customs declarations for both imports and exports is beneficial.
  • Knowledge: Understanding of customs declarations and procedures, ideally gained through experience in freight forwarding or logistics.
  • Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail is crucial to ensure compliance and successful HMRC audits, including risk identification and mitigation.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills are essential for coordinating with all relevant departments and ensuring alignment on customs declarations for daily shipments.
  • Documentation Handling: Experience in checking and processing relevant shipment documentation.
  • Procedural Understanding: Knowledge of various customs procedures and requirements.
