Area Ranger

Posted by National Trust.

Summary

As a countryside property, the National Trust at Winchelsea is at the forefront of conservation – managing the land in our care through a small but dedicated team, to the highest standards for conservation, access, and wider public benefits. As Area Ranger you'll lead the team in the day-to-day delivery of our land management in and around Winchelsea.

What it's like to work here

You'll be reporting to the General Manager who is based at The White Cliffs of Dover. You will lead the team at Winchelsea with both everyday operations and project work. You will oversee all the works at Winchelsea and nearby countryside properties in our care.

Winchelsea is a beautiful mix of rolling Sussex countryside and precious archaeology, surrounding an historic town with a passionate community. It is an exciting time to be joining us as we are currently working on the property's biggest ever nature conservation project, which will deliver improvements for wildlife, climate and the environment for many years to come.

What you'll be doing

You'll be helping to protect and care for habitats, wildlife, buildings and machinery. Following the lead from the Property's Business Plan you'll build and manage an effective and flexible work programme for you and your team. You'll pass on your knowledge and enthusiasm to encourage others to love this area as much as you do, including working closely with the onsite Ranger and a team of regular volunteers. Whenever and wherever you come across people, you'll take the time to talk to them and answer their questions.

You'll make sure that the conservation work and outdoor experiences on the land in your care are of the highest standard. Whilst building relationships in the local community, you'll proudly represent the Trust and tell people about the work you and the volunteer team are doing.
