**SENCO (Maternity Cover)

  • Job Type: Temporary, Full-time/Part-time Considered
  • Location: Near Birmingham City Centre
  • Start Date: September 2024 until February Half Term (with possible handover days in Summer Term 2)

Reed is seeking an experienced SENCO to join the dedicated team of one of our partnering schools on a temporary basis to cover maternity leave. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting staff with SEN strategies, overseeing EHCP and SSPP procedures, and ensuring the best possible educational outcomes for students with special educational needs.

**Day to day of the role:

  • Provide leadership and guidance to staff in the development and implementation of SEN strategies.
  • Oversee the process for creating, reviewing, and updating Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and School Support Provision Plans (SSPPs).
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, parents, and external agencies to ensure that the needs of SEN students are met.
  • Offer support and signposting to staff to enhance their understanding and skills in SEN provision.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of SEN provision and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with current legislation and best practice guidelines in SEN education.
  • Non-classroom based, allowing for a focus on strategic development and individual student support.

**Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Must hold the SENCO award.
  • At least 3-4 years of experience in a SENCO role.
  • In-depth knowledge of EHCP and SSPP procedures.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to support and train staff in SEN strategies.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills.
  • Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willing to obtain one).
