MOJ Legal Assistant

About the Role:

As a Legal Reviewer, you will report to the Legal Review Manager and be responsible for handling MOJ Part 8 Stage 3 oral/paper hearings, Infant Approval hearings, and occasionally Part 8 applications for enforcement. You will set reserves based on Claimant Court Packs and strategy on new instructions, dealing with all technical aspects of the file including assessing general and special damages, negotiation, and drafting of basic court documents and briefs to Counsel.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Reviewing and Reporting:

  • Complete initial review file notes.

  • Identify and handle any technical issues with the file.

  • Value general and special damages on all cases and set negotiation parameters.

  • File AoS and prepare briefs to Counsel.

  • Complete MI requirements for each client.

  • Workload Management:

  • Organize, prioritize, and handle your workload to meet critical dates and achieve KPIs and SLAs.

  • Litigation Process Management:

  • Draft and issue court documents including AoS, consent orders, and occasionally witness statements and certain applications.

  • Adhere to Court timetables and negotiate quantum on appropriate cases.

  • Case Management System:

  • Ensure reserving and all other key information is accurate and updated timely.

  • Meet critical dates and document all actions/strategies.

  • Clearly label all documents in the history.

  • Quality and Development:

  • Deliver quality work, meeting audit benchmark standards.
