The Responsible Person (RP) role is a legal requirement under the provisions of the Boots UK Wholesale Distribution Authorisation (WDA).

The RP safeguards product users against potential hazards arising from poor distribution practices. You will be named as Responsible Person and Responsible Person (import) on the Boots UK WDA.

This is a full-time, permanent position based in Nottingham.

About the role

You will be accountable for ensuring that Boots UK complies with relevant legislation and national competent authority guidance relating to Good Distribution Practice (GDP) and ensuring acceptable standards are upheld and maintained. The role holder must ensure that operations do not compromise the quality of medicines by ensuring that a robust and workable Quality Management System is in place and maintained to meet regulatory and business requirements. As the Responsible Person, you will be a member of the Superintendent Pharmacist's Office team, reporting to the Deputy Superintendent Pharmacist.

In your role as Responsible Person, you will be required to:

  • Are a subject matter expert for GDP and medicinal product wholesaling across Boots UK
  • Ensure that a quality management system is implemented and maintained
  • Ensure that the provisions of the Boots UK WDA are observed and maintained, including the monitoring, review and implementation of new and emerging legislation
  • Ensure that initial and continuous GDP training programmes are implemented and maintained
  • Ensure that self-inspections are performed at appropriate regular intervals following a prearranged programme and necessary corrective measures are put in place.
  • Ensure that any additional requirements imposed on certain products by national law are adhered to
  • Acts as Responsible Person (import)
  • Are a primary point of contact for national competent authorities for medical products (e.g. MHRA)
  • Lead and help develop any direct reports

What you'll need to have

  • Membership of one of the following professional bodies:

o Royal Society of Biology

o Royal Pharmaceutical Society

o Pharmaceutical Society of Northern Ireland

o Royal Society of Chemistry

o The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport

o The Chartered Quality Institute

o The Organisation for Professionals in Regulatory Affairs

  • Expert knowledge of, and experience in, Good Distribution Practice together with the regulatory requirements for medicinal products in the UK and Europe
  • Extensive experience using and maintaining a Quality Management System
  • Proven leadership experience
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
  • Proven ability to understand complex problems and facilitate solutions (demonstrating due regard to potential risk for the business and the ability to use personal influence to ensure that appropriate decision-making is achieved)
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written with sound attention to detail
  • Ability to operate with autonomy and limited supervision

It would be great if you also have

  • Project management experience
  • Understanding of the operation of community pharmacy
  • Experience acting as an RP and/or Responsible Person (import) on a wholesale distribution authorisation
