Salary: £65,000 per annum plus benefits

Job Overview

We are looking for a talented Network Engineer to ensure the reliability and efficiency of our internal voice, data, video, and wireless network services. In this role, you will plan, design, and develop both local area networks (LANs) and wide area networks (WANs) across our organization. You will also handle the installation, monitoring, maintenance, support, and optimization of all network hardware, software, and communication links. Your responsibilities will include promptly and accurately troubleshooting network issues and providing training to end-users.

Main Duties:

Deployment

  • Design and implement LANs, WANs, and wireless networks, incorporating servers, routers, hubs, switches, UPSs, and other hardware.
  • Keep abreast of the latest advancements in network products, services, protocols, and standards.
  • Manage the upgrade process for both new and existing equipment, hardware, and software.
  • Negotiate with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure network products and services.
  • Develop, deploy, and maintain VOIP phone systems, including phone servers, phones, and fax machines.
  • Create, install, and maintain Audio/Video systems.

Operational Management

  • Maintain seamless and reliable network operations to support organizational goals.
  • Continuously monitor network performance and resolve issues as they arise.
  • Oversee the setup, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of end-user hardware, software, and peripheral devices.
  • Ensure consistent network connectivity for servers, workstations, telephony equipment, fax machines, and other network devices.
  • Administer servers, including those for databases, email, printers, and backups, along with their operating systems and software.
  • Manage and document network asset inventory and technical specifications.
  • Generate and analyse network performance statistics and reports.
  • Implement and maintain network security solutions, and conduct server and security audits, as well as system backups and recovery procedures.

Strategy & Planning

  • Work with department leaders to evaluate current and future network capacity requirements.
  • Develop and update documentation for network configurations, network mapping, processes, and service records.
  • Formulate, implement, and sustain policies, procedures, and training programs for network management, usage, and disaster recovery.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Proven experience in LAN, WAN, WLAN, and WWAN design and implementation.
  • Experience with network capacity planning, network security principles, and network management best practices.
  • Experience with VOIP phone systems.
  • Strong hardware troubleshooting skills.
  • Competence with testing tools and procedures for voice and data circuits.
  • Good understanding of the organization's goals and objectives.
  • Knowledge of data privacy practices and laws.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to conduct research into networking issues and products.
  • Ability to present ideas in a user-friendly manner.
  • Highly self-motivated with keen attention to detail.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
