Regional Machine Safety Expert

Responsibilities of Position:

  • To conduct technical risk assessments of plant and equipment mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems to ensure that all risks are identified and minimized by design.
  • To determine the safety Performance Level rating for machinery based on the identified risks (PLr).
  • Create safety concepts for machine designs that meet the PLr rating, considering all system failure modes and potential breaches of operation, to include system redundancy and suitably rated safety devices.
  • To apply software systems such as 'Sistema' to evaluate machine safety system design.
  • Create technical reports with recommendations, clearly identifying the priority actions.
  • Supports the budget planning process and capex generation for machine safety improvements.
  • In conjunction with the Plant Operations Team, support the creation of plant & equipment safety improvement plans.
  • To work with Manufacturing Engineering on safety systems for new machine designs.
  • To advise the technical requirements for Lock-Out/Tag-Out and machine 'safe state' for personnel intervention.
  • Attending machine commissioning events to ensure technical safety compliance.
  • To advise on the impact of machine modifications and the safety requirements for multi-machine integration and following certification.
  • Author technical documentation for safety standards at TI Fluid Systems, including safe procedures for setting and adjust of machinery.
  • Provides direction for technical safety checklists for the plants to follow.
  • Conduct technical safety training for engineering personnel.
  • To be fully conversant in CE conformity and its supporting directives and standards, (especially related to ISO 12100 and ISO 13849).
  • To be fully conversant in regional safety conformity and its supporting directives and standards, applying the most stringent safety standard for TI Fluid Systems plant & equipment.
  • Communicate and advise on machine safety legislation updates.
  • Works closely with the global team and corresponding positions in the other TIFS regions.

Skill Requirements:

Extensive knowledge of machine control systems and design for safety.

Knowledge of PLC systems and program construction for safe operation.

Ability to analyze and evaluate complex machine systems, including the potential for abnormal events and their effect on system performance.

Ability to immediately identify machine hazards and potential for harm.

Attention to detail and problem-solving mindset.

Strong analytical skills for risk assessment.

Outstanding organizational, communication, leadership, interpersonal and decision-making abilities.

Experience managing conflicting objectives and compressed timelines.

Ability to manage projects and support multiple priorities required.

Flexibility to work in a diverse environment.

Strong communications skills: ability to interact and communicate at all levels, with effective upward and downward communication skills demonstrated.

Proficient in the use of PC and Microsoft Office programs.

Education and Experience Requirements:

10+ years of experience in a technical plant engineering position.

Experience in high-volume manufacturing line design, installation, commissioning, and launch.

Engineering degree required.

Technical safety qualification such as Certified Machine Safety Expert (CMSE) qualification

Experience with software-based machine safety evaluation such as Sistema.

Licensing or Special Certification Requirements:

Valid drivers' license.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to work at a personal computer for extended periods of time.

Ability to travel globally to plants and customer sites.

Working Conditions:

Occasionally lifts and carries up to 10 pounds.

Some of work time is spent standing, walking, lifting and bending.

Works within an automotive components manufacturing office setting and may be exposed to heat, cold and fumes/chemicals.

Traveling will be required.
