Accommodation Support Worker Homelessness

We have a fantastic opportunity for an Accommodation Support Worker at Manchester City Council. This is a full-time temporary role for the next 1 -2 months, with the possibility of extension.

What is the role?

Manchester City Council are looking for an Accommodation Support Worker, to join the Afghan resettlement scheme. You will act as a point of contact for customers of the Homelessness Service, providing effective and accurate information and advice.

What are your responsibilities?

  • Carry out prompt assessments of customers referred to the project for accommodation and provide a safe and supported environment for homeless people accepted into the service. Actively promote integration of the accommodation, and its residents into the local and wider community.
  • Supply high quality housing related support, advice and advocacy to all temporary accommodation residents in order to assist customers in accessing support relating to benefits, support agencies, education, employment, resettlement options and training.
  • Provide intensive support for customers with complex support needs, particularly customers who have exhibited anti-social behaviour. Offer holistic support plans for residents and agree individual targets which work towards longer -term housing solutions and aspirations.
  • Ensure the effective upkeep and smooth running of the temporary accommodation resource, including property repairs, licensing agreements, health and safety requirements and rent collections.
  • Supply a comprehensive building management service, including preparation of flats for let, organising programmed and responsive repairs and maintenance, supervision of building services staff, management and ordering of furnishings, and household equipment.
  • We need someone who is able to visit families in their own homes or the apartments where they are temporary staying. A car driver is essential because they will be traveling across Manchester.
  • The families will need support with setting up utility bills, maintaining payments, council tax etc. Support with Universal credit and regularly checking their UC journal. Applying for School places, and a GP.
  • Their rent account must also be checked regularly to ensure it is in payment. A good knowledge of safeguarding is essential in the role.
  • The candidate will be supporting people who are new to the UK and from different cultural backgrounds.

What skills do you Need?

  • Must have previous Accommodation Support Worker experience.
  • Excellent people skills, as you will be speaking to the public / clients, and other members of staff including managers.
  • Very Strong IT skills, as you will be using Microsoft office and other internal IT Systems.
  • Knowledge of Housing Legislations
  • Valid Enhanced DBS on the update Service
  • Full UK Driving Licence, and access to a vehicle
