Location: Ely, Cambridgeshire (CB7 4EE)

Salary: £31,364 - £35,745 PA, Plus Benefits Package

Job Type: Full – Time, Permanent

Hours: Mon – Thurs 8:45am – 5:00pm and Fri 8:45am – 4:30pm (37 hours PW)

GIS Officer – The Role:

In this role, you will provide expert advice and guidance on GIS across the Council, host sessions to communicate key messages and best practices, and facilitate staff discussions on GIS-related issues. You will also manage spatial data capture, map production, geospatial analysis, and lead data management improvements to share Council data with stakeholders.

GIS Officer – Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead on GIS support and development, ensuring compliance with national standards
  • Enhance GIS reporting and contribute to improvements with ICT Support Officers
  • Create and maintain the Geospatial Strategy for the Council's digital and data maturity
  • Implement best practices and tools for spatial data management and integration
  • Interpret, analyse, and present data sets, ensuring accuracy of geospatial data
  • Act as the principal contact for the Public Sector Mapping Agreement (PSMA) with Ordnance Survey
  • Create and maintain a GIS Data Catalogue aligned with the GIS Data Store
  • Regularly review the use of the Council's GIS Software and identify functional requirements
  • Contribute to major ICT incidents, disaster recovery, or cyber incidents as needed
  • Build relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Provide training and presentations to Council staff and external audiences
  • Work outside normal office hours as required
  • Undertake other reasonable duties as needed

GIS Officer – You:

The ideal candidate must possess the following:

  • Degree which includes strong spatial data component or 3 years equivalent experience
  • Knowledge of the Ordnance Survey public services mapping agreement Knowledge of ISO14001, BS7666 Experience in spatial database development. This will include design, build, architecture & implementation Experience of implementing spatial data standards across all business areas GDPR Knowledge and awareness
  • GIS & data visualisation skills Experience of continually improving spatial data capability Experience of working with multiple stakeholders. Gathering, interpretating & analysing all requirements Experience of leading spatial data integration projects across a variety of business systems
  • Reliable flexible and responsive with the ability to react to changing customer service demands
  • Good communication skills to transfer information to both technical and nontechnical customers (internal and external)
