Management Accountant

A prestigious charity near Camberwell in London is seeking Management Accountant to join their dynamic Team on a six-month FTC which could be extended or made permanent. The role is to provide support to the Financial Controller in managing the management and financial accounts of the charity.

The postholder will be expected to deliver on the following:

  • Producing monthly management accounts for the charity with commentary and key performance indicators.
  • Budgeting and forecasting: Developing, monitoring, and reporting on the budget, as well as preparing financial forecasts and projections.
  • Preparing monthly schedules such as deferred income, accruals, and prepayment in accordance with accounting policies
  • To monitor expenditure and income and support budget holders in managing the delegated budget by providing monthly reports on income, grant, and expenditure.
  • Fund management reporting: Monitor organisation's expenditure and income, and support managers with preparation of funders monthly or quarterly reports on fund usage. Collate evidence to ensure compliance with grant requirement. Provide explanation for key variances and figures on the report and ensure report reconcile to data in the financial systems.
  • Ensure accurate distribution of monthly overheads and direct cost to projects based on FTE's, being able to provide explanation of the allocation to projects managers.
  • Provide financial information and developing templates to assist the Financial Controller in the tasks of preparing budgetary information, monitoring, forecasting, and controlling expenditure.
  • Coordination of the year-end financial accounts and support the Head of Finance to ensure a smooth process.
  • Business Partner of projects and Business planning
  • Prepare analysis and monthly summary of key variances of department's reports, explaining differences between budgets and actuals.
  • Interpret and communicate financial data to non-financial managers while working closely to support their understanding of the department's financial position and performance.
  • Hold regular progress finance meetings with budget holders and reporting on month end variances. Ensure and encourage spend is kept in line with the budget and advise on the financial implications of business decisions.
  • Delivery of monthly payroll
  • Provide cover for the Transactional Manager during periods of absence to ensure continuation of activities of the finance team.
  • Such other duties as may be reasonably expected of the post holder as directed by the Head of Finance and Finance Director.

Person Specification

Knowledge

  • Strong accounting technical knowledge (Debits, credit, accruals, deferred income, prepayment, etc)
  • Ability to support the reporting process, demonstrating an understanding of reporting from a funder perspective and an ability to translate complex financial information into a format that meets the needs of funders.
  • Respond to fundraising queries/gaps in coordinating and preparing bids

Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to use Exchequer or similar financial system
  • Experience of working with Sage 50 Payroll or similar payroll software
  • Ability to explain finances in an accessible and easy to understand manner to non-finance staff
