Responsibilities for the role of SEND & Exam Access Arrangements Assessors

  • Carry out the relevant specialist exam access arrangement assessments for learners where required, including Wide Range Achievement Testing (WRATs), and the associated reports in line with the JCQ Regulations
  • Ensure that ALS disclosures are screened timely and additional learning support appointments are conducted
  • Actively identify, assess and recommend ALS strategies to reduce barriers to learning, considering recommendations from EHCPs, referrals, disclosures and the learner and family's needs and wishes
  • Work with internal and external stakeholders to ensure early identification of learners' individual support needs in line with the SEND Code of Practice
  • Work collaboratively with curriculum teams and wider support departments to ensure the ALS recommendations are deployed, and learners are supported as per their ALS plans and EHCPs
  • Aid in the screening of ALS referrals, disclosures and medical information relating to learners with complex and high needs Identify the level of support required through learner assessments and recommend additional learning support strategies to help learners overcome barriers to accessing learning and be successful in their study programme of choice
  • Undertake assessments of risk, support needs, care plans and disclosures relating to learning and personal needs of potential learners who have emotional and behavioural difficulties and refer to appropriate services where appropriate
  • Prepare and circulate support guidance documentation and liaise with wider support and curriculum colleagues to ensure appropriate support is provided timely, including exam access arrangements
  • Work in conjunction with the exam teams to ensure appropriate and timely evidence is provided for exam access arrangements
  • Upload all necessary ALS documentation to Pro-Solution timely
  • Work in conjunction with members of the health and safety team, carry out Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans where required
  • Provide ad hoc specialist/discreet support to groups and individual learners
  • Liaise with the educational psychologist and/or other external stakeholders where appropriate to inform individual ALS plans and EHCP needs assessment requests
  • Support Coordinator(s) to develop and review the support for learners with learning difficulties and/or disabilities
  • Where appropriate, attend behaviour and intervention/disciplinary meetings for learners with an EHCP and inform further strategies to support
  • Aid the managing demands, working within time constraints and pressures to complete day-to-day operational tasks and achieving targets in line with deadlines, as and when appropriate
  • Handle sensitive issues and challenging behaviour as it arises, with support from colleagues where requireds
  • Work closely with wider ALS colleagues to ensure that support for learners with ALS requirements is implemented consistently across the college
  • Collaborate effectively with Cross College staff including Additional Learning Support Team Leader, Mentors, Campus Safeguarding Lead, ALS administrators, LSA Coordinators, Curriculum staff and other stakeholders as and when appropriate

Skills and Experience for the Role of SEND & Exam Access Arrangements Assessors

  • Experience in supporting students with emotional and behavioural difficulties is essential
  • Experience in multi-agency work will be required
  • Experience and understanding of making safeguarding referrals is a must for this role
  • Will have experience working with young people and vulnerable adults with learning difficulties and/or disabilities
  • A proven ability to plan, prepare & implement support programmes/assessments as and when required
  • A specialist qualification in the SEND subject area i.e. learning difficulties/disabilities, including the necessary specialist qualification to carry out exam access arrangement assessments
  • A minimum Level 2 Literacy and Numeracy/Equivalent is a requirement
  • Safeguarding, Prevent and E&D (Training up to date)
  • Current First Aid certificate or willingness to work towards if required
  • Understanding of Additional Learning Support within an educational or training context is essential
  • Sound knowledge of the JCQ regulations
  • Work professionally and confidentially with a high degree of integrity and flexibility
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people receiving education and training
