We have an exciting opportunity for 2 Duty Managers to support and deliver the lights extravaganza Christmas event alongside our commercial partners.

Hours: Part time hours, working days and hours will vary during the pre-event and event periods and weekends are included. During the event it is likely that you will work up to 4 shifts of up to 8.5 hours each per week, and you'll be required to work a proportion of the 39 event dates as one of the two National Trust?Duty Managers.

Salary: FTE £26,832pa

Contract: Fixed term contract until January 2025

What it's like to work here

Dunham Massey is a 3,000-acre estate situated approximately 10 miles south of central Manchester and three miles south of Altrincham. Roger Grey, 10th Earl of Stamford, gifted to the Trust in 1976 and today it attracts over 500,000 visitors a year.

Now a successfully established our annual tradition is delivered in partnership with RGL Sony, gives visitors the opportunity to see the gardens and buildings all aglow for a magical, after-dark experience. As Duty Manager you'll work closely with the property team, production company, promoter, contractors and suppliers to ensure that this year's event builds on previous successes.

What you'll be doing

You'll be responsible for the day-to-day venue operational management of the event with colleagues and event partners, you will ensure that Dunham's buildings and landscape receive the appropriate protection, and maximise opportunities to communicate the Trust's core purpose tens of thousands of visitors. You'll have operational line management responsibility for our staff on event nights, and local responsibility for the consistent delivery of a great visitor experience for our visitors.

You'll use your strong communication skills to establish strong working relationships and be part of the venue duty management team for the event, supported by members of the Dunham management and wider property team.

You'll work closely with Dunham's Business Services Team to answer customer queries, provide information and assist with the event administration in general.

A key part of this role is to ensure full compliance with relevant national systems and procedures, promoting awareness of health & safety, assessing and leading risk to ensure the safe and efficient operation at all times.

Who we're looking for

This is a significant role at a busy property, and we need someone who can take on the challenge to maintain the great reputation of this event. To deliver this role successfully, ideally you'll have:

  • significant operational management experience in a busy customer facing environment and/or at historic properties
  • an appreciation of balancing visitor experience with revenue generation
  • experience of assessing & leading risk, knowledge of health & safety and compliance requirements and planning for and leading emergency scenarios
  • strong communication skills enabling establishment of good working relationships with colleagues and partners, including delivery through others and use of collective team experience
  • the ability to work on own initiative, respond to varying pressures, lead difficult situations
  • leadership experience including good decision-making skills, positive attitude, accountability, organisation skills
  • strong communication skills including awareness of phenomenal customer service and experience of complaints handling.
