If you are a highly motivated, enthusiastic and flexible Speech and Language Therapist with an interest in working in Children and Young Adults, we have an exciting opportunity for you to join the team in Southampton.

The post holder will provide a speech and language therapy service to a student with with language disorders, ASD and social interaction needs.

Min of 90 min per week of DIRECT Speech and Language Therapy to be split as follows:

  • 2 individual / paired speech and language therapy sessions (2 x 30 minutes per week)
  • A weekly social skills group (a minimum of 30 minutes per week).
  • This will need to focus particularly upon:
  • expressive language skills;
  • receptive language;
  • sequential skills;
  • applying language to problem-solving;
  • emotional expression and vocabulary linked to this;
  • reciprocal conversation; and
  • social interaction.

Salary: £80/h

The Speech and Language Therapist will also need to provide the following INDIRECT interventions / support to within targeted lessons / activities, as part of an inter-disciplinary and collaborative approach to meet her needs:

  • Training to school staff regarding speech, language and social communication difficulties - a minimum of 2 hours a term.
  • Ongoing advice regarding the use of appropriate visual supports, including signing. This will support significant language processing and auditory memory difficulties and also facilitate the development of her independence skills. will need to be encouraged and taught to use visual supports at school and other environments.
  • Speech, language and social communication targets will need to be incorporated within individual education plan and programme. This will ensure language and social communication needs are developed across all curricular areas.
  • A minimum of 60 minutes per term to update and review targets and programme. in liaison with educational staff and parents.
  • The Speech and Language Therapist will need to provide a report for Annual Review - a minimum of 2 hours per academic year.

What you'll need as a Speech Language Therapist:

  • Highly specialist knowledge acquired through degree or equivalent qualifications, including further theoretical training and experience to Master's level equivalent in required speciality
  • Continued Professional Development evidenced by attendance at short specialist postgraduate courses to maintain and develop own specialist knowledge and expertise.
  • Recognised Speech & Language Therapy Degree Qualification or equivalent (Post Graduate Diploma or MSc in Speech & Language Therapy leading to registration with HCPC)
  • HCPC Licence to Practice, Registered member of Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists, Membership of relevant CEN
  • 6 months of paid patient facing UK nursing experience from within the past 3 years
  • Up-to-date clinical best practice knowledge
  • The right to work in the UK
