About the Role

Base Location: Perth or Edinburgh – this is a hybrid role working a minimum of 2 days a week from the office at the advertised location.

Salary: £40,600 - £61,000 + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

Working Pattern: Permanent | Full Time | Flexible First options available

As an Energy Markets Analyst you will help ensure our energy portfolio is economically managed and is competitive in the market place by supporting the decision-making process of the trading team. To do this you will build and operate complex analytical tools and numerical models to articulate complex trading proposals which will require advanced programming skills and database operation. Some of your main accountabilities will include:?

  • Analysis of key market fundamentals and internal processes to optimise decision making across the desk.?
  • Operate and maintain trade support and market models to the highest standards to ensure traders and senior managers have timely access to information to enhance decision making.?
  • Build new tools for trading and market analysis and improve existing ones as and when the need arises.
  • Provide desk cover across all products.?
  • Market and counterparty intelligence reporting, including supply chain analysis and report on competitor and customer commercial strategies.?

What do I need?

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

  • A successful track record in a trading environment related capacity along with a demonstrable knowledge of industry players, industry structure and commercial mechanisms and drivers.?
  • Strong numeracy and communication skills with the ability to use MS Office suite of products. Programming knowledge is essential in VBA and Databases with the ability to code in Python and other programming languages desirable.?
  • Energy and drive to succeed, with proven examples of overcoming challenges to deliver success, independently and as part of a team within a highly pressurised environment.?
  • Diligent, responsible and reliable with a close attention to detail and fundamental respect for internal and external governance.?
  • Completed a degree in a numerical discipline such as, but not limited to, Mathematics, Science, Engineering or Economics would be desirable.

Energy Markets (EM) is the energy markets heart of the SSE Group, securing value for SSE's asset portfolios in wholesale energy markets as we move towards our vision of being a leading energy company in a net zero world. We play a critical role as the short-term energy market asset optimiser, and a long-term energy market adviser, for all SSE's Business Units (across SSE's Wind, Hydro, Low Carbon Thermal, Distributed Energy and Customer portfolios). This role for EM enables SSE to focus its investment in energy markets capabilities (including Trading, Risk Management, Energy Economics, Settlements and Advanced Analytics) in one centre of excellence, with these enhanced capabilities supporting value creation and decision making across the SSE Group.
