We're looking for an enthusiastic Control & Systems Engineer to join our Engineering team in Burton.

The successful applicant will work 40 hours per week, from 08:00 - 16:00 Monday to Friday.

Salary for this role will be £44,000 - 54,000 per annum, depending upon qualification, skills, background and experience.

Reporting to the Maintenance and Engineering Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for delivering a range of highly technologically focused projects and improvement programs consistent with a complex, global, technical leader in the Prestige and Ultra High Performance Tyre industry.

This role requires a high degree of technical know-how and a capability to work on a broad range of software and control systems. The Control & Systems Engineer will become the technical specialist on many of these systems so a high degree of autonomy and flexibility is required in terms of problem solving and continual search for improvements to technical efficiency and effectiveness.

Candidates will be required to lead projects, taking them from concept to specification to detail design and full realisation within agreed timings and budgets. They will be a member of the broader engineering team and be required to collaborate in projects led by other colleagues or even other functions in both a practical 'hands-on' role or as a consultant. An important element of the role is the transfer of know-how to others by means of coaching, formal training packages or shadowing. Good interpersonal skills will therefore be required.

The ideal candidate will be equally comfortable in the factory environment or the office, working directly on machines to develop new investments and upgrades, creating designs, writing software or even updating documents etc. at a desk. The Control & Systems Engineer will deal confidently and professionally with external suppliers who will provide the goods or services specified or designed by them or their colleagues.

Main duties include (but are not limited to):

  • Providing a first class, professional, safe, engineering service
  • Being acutely aware of the need for accuracy and resilience in a fast paced and highly pressurised environment
  • Understanding how the role of Control & Systems Engineer compliments and works with other factory functions such as production, Quality, R&D, HSE and IT and to operate at all times in a fully co-operative and cohesive manner
  • Working as an effective team member in relation to the Engineering team and as required with other functions
  • Taking initiative and solving problems through standard analysis tools and systems and regular liaison and discussion with colleagues, line managers and external suppliers
  • Identifying and undertaking training and development activities as required to enable you to fulfil the role, keep your knowledge and skills up to date and to fulfil your own potential
  • Assisting in the guidance, development and integration of colleagues, new employees, apprentices, work placement students etc. in respect of the Engineering role
  • Being an excellent ambassador for Pirelli UK both at home and abroad, at all times, in respect of language, dress and general professional behaviour
  • Understanding and adhering to secrecy/confidentiality requirements relating to Pirelli's Intellectual Property
  • Undertaking any other activities commensurate with the role to ensure the successful delivery of projects

The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate the following abilities:

Education and professional background:

Essential

  • High level of general education, to include English and Maths
  • Excellent IT skills particularly Microsoft Excel
  • A relevant qualification in industrial software or control systems engineering to a recognised accrediting body, HNC/HND, or Degree level etc.

Professional and personal aptitudes:

Essential

  • Effective communication e.g. face to face, email, telephone etc. across various levels of the business
  • Resilience to be able to work in a busy, fast paced and highly pressurised environment
  • Extensive knowledge of SCADA systems including their PLC interface, control systems and integration with other industrial software applications.
  • Extensive knowledge of Industrial automation systems including Siemens S7 (Simatic Manager classic and TIA Portal) and GEM 80
  • Experience of programming and fault finding AC and DC drives
  • Experience of SQL and Access database, MS Office and AutoCAD

  • Experience with using WinCC Professional or WinCC Advanced
  • Fluency in a language other than English
