Design Standards Manager

Are you an experienced Design Standards Manager who is looking for an exciting new challenge?

Our Edinburgh based client is currently looking for a Design Standards Manager to join their team on a contract basis for a period of 6 months with the potential for this to be extended. In this role you will provide support to the Head of Professional and Technical Services and develop specific projects or initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage consultants appointed for design or other professional services, including framework management.
  • Direct design commissions in support of projects, where appropriate.
  • Oversee the direct appointment and management of consultants for specific appointments and tasks.
  • Act as a design champion, ensuring that a standard suite of suitable design standards is available and regularly reviewed.
  • Provide project-specific guidance, advice, and assistance to ensure the delivery of high-quality outcomes.
  • Promote quality design and its contribution to the aims of the business, ensuring positive outcomes for users of buildings and estates.
  • Coordinate business and design improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain contact with relevant authorities, other governmental groups (Scottish and UK), and advisory organisations.

Key Applicant Requirements

  • Educational Qualification: Degree in a building or engineering discipline (e.g., Architecture, Building Surveying, Construction Management) or an HND in a construction-related discipline.
  • Strategic Input: Ability to contribute to development plans, feasibility studies, and research to address Estates business needs.
  • Framework and Contract Management: Experience managing consultants for design and professional services, monitoring project progress, ensuring delivery quality, and overseeing the tendering and commissioning process.
  • Design Standards: Proficiency in developing and maintaining design standards, including specialist systems and specifications, ensuring they reflect current best practices and business requirements.
  • Project Assistance: Capability to tailor design standards for specific projects, support Project Sponsors and Managers, and provide ongoing assistance through all project stages, including construction and handover.
  • Continuous Improvement: Ability to coordinate post-occupancy and completion reviews, identify areas for improvement, and integrate feedback from various sources into the enhancement of project outcomes.
  • Specialist Knowledge: Expertise in estate management, building standards, and related legislation, with experience in initiating product trials and developing reports.
  • **Chartered Status: Would be desirable.

This role requires regular working in the Edinburgh office. The role comes with a negotiable working pattern and a salary banding of £57,000 - £62,000.
