About the job:

Our client currently requires a Principal Electronics Engineer responsible for design and development of electronics for instrumentation and acoustics applications. The role will include;

Team leadership

  • Providing support to the Director of Engineering to co-ordinate Electronics Engineering projects and tasks.
  • Provide guidance to staff to ensure the engineering team completes project assignments on time and within budgets.
  • Mentoring and developing Engineering team.
  • Participating in risk assessments and mitigating activities.
  • Providing design reviews and giving technical recommendations.
  • Participating in technical audits and ensuring recommendations are implemented.
  • Developing and providing technical standards and guidance in all software design and development.
  • Provide technical support to Sales and Manufacturing departments.

Technical

  • Mixed signal design including pre-amplifiers, filters, power supplies, interfacing, and analogue-digital conversion for precision instrumentation applications.
  • Microcontroller-based circuit design.
  • You will be expected to work independently or as a member of a team contributing to all aspects of the product development cycle from requirement analysis through design & development into production.
  • You will be expected to produce design documentation and test specifications.

About you:

As a Principal Electronics Engineer your skills and qualifications will include:

  • BSc/BEng or equivalent experience in Engineering or similar
  • Expertise in analogue and digital circuit design preferably in an instrumentation development environment.
  • Some experience or knowledge of microcontroller-based circuit design and embedded software essential.
  • Some experience or knowledge of FPGA based circuit design is desirable.
  • IPC trained (training can be provided)
  • OrCAD design software or experience with similar tools.

It will be helpful to have knowledge of:

  • Basic Analog components / circuits
  • Operational Amplifier circuits
  • Power supply technology
  • Circuit analysis, modelling, and theory
  • Analog-Digital Conversion
  • Interfacing and IO (e.g. I2C and SPI bus)
  • CAD Schematic layout
  • CAD PCB design
  • Fault finding
  • Assembler and/or embedded ‘C'
  • Use of PAL/FPGA technologies.
  • Linux and other OS
