Estate Management Officer

Posted by National Trust.

Summary

We're looking for an Estate Management Officer to join our Let Estate Management team at Grasmere on a fixed-term basis. In this role, you'll provide essential technical support for a diverse range of estates, including residential, commercial, and agricultural properties across Cumbria.

You'll play a key part in maintaining effective systems and processes, while also conducting data analysis to ensure the smooth and efficient management of the estates.

This is a fixed term contract due to end when the previous employee returns from maternity leave. At this point we cannot confirm exactly how long this contract will last, but it's unlikely to be more than 12 months.

What it's like to work here

You'll work on our extensive let portfolio across Cumbria, including over 20% of the Lake District National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This includes 90 farms, 200 houses, and various properties of different ages and significance.

You'll be part of a busy team alongside Estate Managers, Building Surveyors, Building Supervisors, and a skilled in-house buildings team. The management of our tenancies and assets, along with strong tenant relationships, supports our national £50m+ annual rental income and drives our conservation efforts.

Your contractual location will be our Regional Hub in Grasmere and there'll be an expectation for you to attend the office. However, there's flexibility on where you're based at other times. You'll be required to work at a National Trust location for 40-60% of your working week. This'll be discussed in more detail at interview.

What you'll be doing

Customer service will be key in building and maintaining relationships with tenants, colleagues, and contractors. You'll support Estate Managers by managing key performance indicators, compliance tasks, data analysis, and property management.

Your tasks may include residential re-lets, marketing, inspections, credit checks, drafting legal documents, and low complexity rent reviews. You'll also assist with managing void properties and coordinating with Estate Managers on their future.

Working closely with Building Supervisors and Building Surveyors, you'll help process property repairs, raise purchase orders, and manage documentation. As part of the wider team, you'll support Estate Management Plans, cyclical work, and the National Trust's conservation goals.

Who we're looking for

You can view the full role profile for this role in the document attached. You don't need to have all the knowledge, skills and experience listed in the role profile; this provides a full picture of what's possible in this role. But we'd love to hear from you if you have:

  • Strong data management and analytical skills to support Estate Managers, Surveyors, and Supervisors
  • Ability to maintain data, systems, and processes for effective estate management
  • Team player with a focus on best practices and idea-sharing
  • Good interpersonal and customer service skills when liaising with tenants, partners, and stakeholders
  • Understanding of residential lettings, property management, and refurbishment, with knowledge of rural and building surveying
  • Excellent IT, verbal, and written communication skills
