Sustainability Assistant - Climate

Posted by Aldi.

Working closely with the National Sustainability Manager, you'll play a vital role in making sure everything runs smoothly.

National Sustainability is part of our core values, so you'll be on the front line, celebrating best practice with industry bodies, NGO's, retailers and suppliers. You will be considered a specialist in your given field and will be immersed in a wide variety of different tasks involving putting proposals together, training new staff members and liaising with stakeholders.

We do things our own way at Aldi. But whatever we're doing, we must be getting it right. With a wave of impressive sales figures behind us, we're opening new stores at lightning speed. And that means managing our National Sustainability is more crucial than ever before.

This role will involve supporting the NSUST Manager to deliver ALDI UK & Ireland's Scope 3 Carbon Reduction Strategy, taking a leading role of the Scope 3 categories that Aldi UK & Ireland are currently reporting against. There will be increased focus on the decarbonisation of the products that Aldi sell from our top commodity groups, however will also include our Real Estate and National Supply Chain department activity. In addition, the successful candidate will be required to complete several reporting and general administrative tasks to support the team.

We are on an ambitious journey to Net-Zero and need the right person to help accelerate our plans to get there.

The role will involve collaboration with different departments across both national and international teams, in addition to several external consultants. The successful candidate will be required to build and manage these stakeholder relationships to help drive ALDI's Carbon Reduction Strategy. The candidate will need to work closely with existing teams focusing on our carbon reduction to support and extract key information needed to effectively address our Scope 3 carbon.

Data analysis and calculation will be a key part of this role, with the successful candidate being able to support Aldi in calculating the GHG emissions impact of our key product groups, across the various supply chain stages. This could take the form of supporting with Agricultural carbon analysis, calculating the logistics impact of our products, or modelling the expected disposal emissions at our customers' homes. Therefore, experience with the world of carbon accounting is essential, desirably in the areas of FLAG and Product emissions.

Interpretation, visualisation, and communication of this data will also be a key aspect of the role with the successful candidate able to engage commercial colleagues on key aspects of Scope 3 carbon emissions. The successful candidate will also be responsible for reporting Aldi's Scope 3 emissions inventory to our multiple 3rd party organisations with a view to potentially take on the role of self-accounting our emissions inventory in the future.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing their own time to prioritise multiple tasks and deadlines across a variety of projects. They will be expected to own multiple data systems related to carbon and will need to self-manage work, providing updates and seeking sign off from the NSUST Manager at regular updates.
