Premier Engineering is seeking a Senior Technical Buyer to join a leading company in Ipswich that designs and manufactures bespoke packaging machinery. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in procurement within an engineering or manufacturing environment, with a strong technical understanding of machinery components.

The Senior Technical Buyer will ideally have the following attributes:

  • Proven experience in a technical buying or procurement role within engineering or manufacturing
  • Strong understanding of mechanical components, materials, and manufacturing processes
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications
  • Excellent negotiation skills with a track record of managing supplier relationships
  • Experience in sourcing and procuring custom-made components and materials
  • Proficiency in using ERP/MRP systems
  • Strong communication and organizational skills

The Senior Technical Buyer role will involve:

  • Managing the procurement of mechanical and electrical components for bespoke packaging machinery
  • Liaising with engineering and production teams to understand technical requirements
  • Sourcing, evaluating, and selecting suppliers based on quality, cost, and lead time
  • Negotiating contracts and terms with suppliers to ensure best value for the company
  • Ensuring timely delivery of materials and components to meet production schedules
  • Monitoring supplier performance and implementing improvement initiatives where necessary
  • Identifying cost-saving opportunities without compromising on quality
