Our client are seeking a dedicated Legal Counsel for their in-house legal department, who will be responsible for handling a variety of legal matters within the business services industry. The successful candidate will provide legal advice and support to the team, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and laws.

Description

Reporting into the Legal Director- Commercial and IP, the successful applicant will be dedicated to supporting the Marketing and Innovation Team, Group Procurement, Group IT and the Global Accounts Team, all of whom, play key roles in supporting negotiations with our client's largest global customers. Major responsibilities will include:

Managing and providing timely and competent legal advice to Group Marketing & Innovation by:

  • Reviewing and negotiating customer contracts for the Global Accounts Team, working on high-value, multi-jurisdiction agreements with their largest global customers in UK and elsewhere, ensuring compliance with the Group contracting policy and acting as the point of contact for the Global Accounts team;
  • Reviewing and negotiating third party agreements, NDAs, material transfers, regulatory applications, responses to regulators and investigations;
  • Providing legal support throughout the new product development process and maintaining knowledge of new, existing and legacy brands, products and services;
  • Providing marketing claims advice in accordance with advertising and product laws and regulations;
  • Attending meetings in order to provide legal advice and maintain key awareness of marketing and innovation pipelines;
  • Advising on domain registrations, transfers and infringements; and
  • Providing expert legal advice on health and safety, privacy and other legal & regulatory requirements.

Support for the Group Procurement function through:

  • Reviewing and negotiating general supplier/service provider terms and conditions for the direct, indirect, fleet and IT procurement teams;
  • Advising on, implementing and updating the Group Procurement Policy and Procurement Contracts Minimum Standards;
  • Advice on supplier on-boarding process; and
  • Advice on ancillary matters such as data protection/privacy.

Supporting Group IT function through:

  • Provision of legal advice on AI regulation;
  • Maintaining and developing GenAI & AI Policy;
  • Advising on AI use and AIaas contracting; and
  • Sharing knowledge with legal colleagues and drafting advisory notes/playbooks.

Profile

This is a varied and challenging role for a UK qualified lawyer, experienced with providing commercial legal advice on matters relating to IP, Technology and Procurement. To succeed in this position the following experience/skills are essential:

  • Significant experience of dealing with complex legal issues, delivery of straightforward, pragmatic, action-oriented advice.
  • Excellent written/verbal communication skills.
  • Strong ability to affect the behaviour of multiple stakeholders so that a good legal and fiscal position is maintained for the company.
  • The ability to think strategically and creatively, to identify and resolve legal issues, comfortable working with less-than-perfect information and recommending courses of action.
  • Interest in understanding the business in depth, and operating within a dynamic, international context.
  • Willingness to work in less familiar areas of law, with appropriate support and training provided.
  • The Ability to work well as a team member and build strong relationships based on rapport and trust with both internal and external stakeholders.
