Refuse Collector

We have a fantastic opportunity for two Refuse Collectors at Kirklees Council. This is a Full-time Temporary role for the next 2 months, with the possibility of extension.

What is the role?

Kirklees Council are looking for two Refuse Collectors to work on the back of a Refuse Collection Vehicle, collecting refuse by presenting wheeled bins at the back of the vehicle and to also collect bags of refuse.

What are your responsibilities?

  • Your main responsibility will be to work as part of a team collecting waste from households and businesses. You will need to work safely, ensuring you use equipment appropriately and follow procedures for the collection, loading, lifting, and handling, disposal of waste in compliance with service standards.
  • You will collect a range of materials including refuse, recycling, clinical bagged waste, bulky items, other waste or assist with skip collections. Reports waste concerns, including non-presented bins and overflowing bins as required. You will assist in recording information using technologies such as in-cab.
  • Collect refuse from bins or bags presented at designated collection points or from households that require assisted support. Return bins without causing obstruction in line with expectations.
  • Collect garden, other bagged waste, bulky items; assist with skip collections and provision of liners as required.
  • Safely operating lifting equipment and undertake work in line with risk assessments and operator's guidance.
  • Comply with procedures and service expectations.
  • Assist in stickering and provision of information to the public on refuse collection arrangements.
  • Complete timesheets, accident books or other records in a timely manner.
  • Provide guidance and assist with the training of less experienced staff on operational matters.

What skills do you Need?

  • Must have previous Refuse Collector / clearance removal experience.
  • Excellent people skills, as you will be speaking to the public, and other members of staff.
  • Must be physically fit and healthy, as you will be working outside, and the role will include heavy lifting.
  • Working hours are 7.00am – 17.00pm Monday to Thursday
