We need experienced Band 5 Paediatric Nurses for one of the largest NHS trusts in the region. The Trust is the regional specialist care provider for southwest London, Surrey, and beyond. The trust provides a high-quality, comprehensive range of health services from leading-edge tertiary and trauma care to community services.

Job Description:

  • Provide excellent nursing care, supervise and mentor Student Nurses and Health Care Assistants, act as an advocate for children and family, and participate in the management of wards.

Responsibilities:

  • Complete Competencies: Ensure high standards of clinical care through relevant competency completion and appraisal.
  • Patient Care: Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care using research findings; maintain personal contact with patients, ensuring dignity and privacy.
  • Leadership and Management: Provide ward leadership, manage the ward without senior staff, and ensure safe staffing levels and adherence to policies.
  • Effective Communication: Demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills with the multidisciplinary team and patients, ensuring clarity and understanding.
  • Nursing Procedures and Medication Management: Follow healthcare policies for nursing procedures, store, check, and administer drugs according to Trust Policy and NMC Standards.
  • Accurate Records and Confidentiality: Maintain timely and accurate nursing records, ensuring confidentiality is respected.
  • Safe Environment: Maintain a clean and safe environment, follow Health and Safety, Clinical Risk, and Infection Control policies, and manage stock levels effectively.
  • Inter-departmental Coordination: Coordinate admissions and discharges, communicate with other wards and departments, participate in meetings, audits, and research projects, and handle patient valuables according to Trust policies.

Skills:

  • Registered nurse for children
  • Computer literate
  • Experience in assessment, planning, and evaluation of patient care
  • Ability to work with and mentor junior staff
  • Awareness of professional responsibilities
  • Understanding of normal child development

Desirable:

  • IV administration course
  • Experience of undertaking a small research project
  • Understanding of the effects of hospital admission on a child and the family
