Learning Mentor

Integra Education are seeking an experienced and dedicated Learning Mentor in Guildford. The successful applicant will work with a young pupil who receives their education through an EOTAS package (Educated other than at school), on a 1:1 basis in the family home and out in the community.

We are looking for individuals who have previous experience supporting young people with SEND and/or SEMH. This role will initially be 18 hours per week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, however there is an opportunity for hours to increase.

Responsibilities:

  • Build a trusting and secure relationship with the young person through their special interests and hold them in unconditional positive regard.
  • To act as an emotional and energy co-regulator and role model.
  • To use natural opportunities to model and discuss emotions, conflict, and social interactions.
  • To facilitate child-led learning and be flexible and able to adapt plans/activities at short notice.
  • To transport the young person to and from activities and support them to participate in activities as needed.
  • To support the young person before, during, and after transitions with regulatory activities.
  • To supervise the young person during periods of downtime between activities and support with care tasks i.e. making food, organising bags for outings, tidying up etc.
  • To act as a liaison between providers to organise activities, adjust schedules dependent on the young person's needs, problem solve issues, and build on successes.
  • Ensure that record keeping in relation to work completed, target setting and progress is up to date and forwarded to the client and anyone in an oversight role
  • To maintain a learning journal evidencing activities, outcomes, and successes, including the collation of any reports, outcomes, and feedback from providers.
  • Provide extra support to the young person through knowledge of a range of activities and opportunities available to them.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEND and/or SEMH
  • Understanding and previous experience of supporting young people with PDA (Pathological Demand Avoidance) profiles
  • Full clean UK Driving Licence is essential
  • PDA Level 2/3 training is essential
  • Level 2 award in mentoring is desirable
  • Autism Level Up (ALUP) training and Studio III Low Arousal training is desirable.
  • Excellent ICT and gaming skills
  • Incidental Learning experience
  • The ability to research and plan activities
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills
  • An eagerness to gain experience, expertise, and professional development through this role.
  • Knowledge of the principles involved in giving advice and guidance to young people including the place of confidentiality and sharing information.
  • The ability to think differently about learning and be able to demonstrate impact of learning opportunities.
