Job Requirements of this Teaching Assistant job in Cannock

  • Provide support and assistance to students with special educational needs (SEN) in a secondary school setting.
  • Assist in implementing individual education plans (IEPs) and behaviour management strategies.
  • Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment for students with a wide range of additional needs.
  • Collaborate with teaching staff and SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) to ensure students' educational and social-emotional needs are met.
  • Adapt teaching materials and resources to accommodate students' diverse learning styles and abilities.

Qualifications or Certificates:

Level 2 or 3 qualification in Teaching and Learning or equivalent.

Valid certification in relevant areas such as safeguarding, first aid, or manual handling, preferred but not essential.

Experience:

  • Proven experience working with SEN students within a school environment or similar setting.
  • Familiarity with various SEN conditions such as autism spectrum disorder (ASD), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), dyslexia, etc.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and build rapport with young people with diverse needs.
  • Experience in implementing behaviour management strategies and supporting students with emotional regulation.

Brief Overview of the Role:

Age Group: Secondary to P16 age group.

Length of Bookings: The role may involve both short-term and long-term bookings, depending on the needs of the school and students. This could range from temporary cover for staff absence to more permanent support roles throughout the academic year.

The SEN school is rated 'Good' by Ofsted and caters to young people with a wide range of additional needs. As a Teaching Assistant in this environment, you will play a vital role in supporting the educational and personal development of students, helping them to achieve their full potential in a nurturing and inclusive setting.
