My client are seeking a dedicated Domestic Abuse Help Line & Intake Practitioner to join their team in Wakefield. This role is crucial for providing initial contact, support, and a consistent referral intake pathway for individuals wishing to access the Wakefield District Domestic Abuse Service (WDDAS). The position requires a full office presence and is ideal for candidates local to or willing to travel to Wakefield Normanton.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Act as the first point of contact for all enquiries and referrals to the service.
  • Operate as part of a team providing a helpline response, offering advice and information to the public and professionals regarding victims and perpetrators of domestic abuse.
  • Receive and process agency referrals and self-referrals into the service.
  • Triage referrals, prioritising those at highest risk of harm.
  • Liaise with referring agencies to clarify information or fill gaps in referrals.
  • Make initial contact with clients to establish engagement for support and assess the suitability of referrals.
  • Provide immediate support and safety planning to domestic abuse victims, including advice, emotional support, information on civil and criminal remedies, refuge placement, and necessary interventions.
  • Identify and assess the risks and needs of domestic abuse victims using evidence-based risk identification checklists.
  • Complete initial assessments and record any immediate needs prior to allocation for longer specialist domestic abuse support.
  • Support the team in attending multi-agency meetings and ensure child or adult protection concerns are responded to appropriately.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Hold an IDVA qualification or a relevant degree, or demonstrate an equivalent level of knowledge and skills gained through relevant employment.
  • Basic counselling qualification (desirable).
  • Excellent understanding of the complexity and dynamic nature of domestic abuse.
  • Knowledge of services available to support perpetrators of domestic abuse.
  • Working knowledge of the risk assessment and safety planning process within the context of domestic abuse.
  • Substantial experience working in the field of domestic abuse.
  • Proven experience of multi-agency and partnership working.
  • Experience in providing crisis intervention and case management working with domestic abuse or vulnerable client groups.
