Field Build Lead (Fibre)

The Field Build Lead is responsible for the end-to-end delivery of construction programs and extensions. This role ensures that all programs for construction works and extensions are delivered on time, within budget, and to high quality standards. Effective alignment of resources and third-party contractors is essential to proactively meet targets and ensure that all delivery is completed safely and to agreed quality standards. Keeping stakeholders updated on progress and delivering against the build plan are also key responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Overseeing day-to-day delivery of construction programs and extensions, focusing on:
  • Quality assurance of work performed
  • Cost control within budgeted limits
  • Progress reporting
  • Managing delivery within agreed timelines
  • Managing day-to-day delivery of network extensions, involving:
  • Ensuring availability and deployment of necessary resources
  • Addressing and supporting issues as they arise
  • Providing sign-off on completed extensions, ensuring test results comply with standards
  • Supporting and driving delivery to meet agreed-upon deadlines
  • Monitoring daily delivery costs
  • Weekly progress reporting
  • Handling on-the-day escalations and expediting deliveries when necessary.

Job Description:

  • Collaborating with Programmes, Networks, and Planning Teams to ensure smooth delivery and keeping stakeholders informed, especially in case of potential delays.
  • Regular communication with contractors and overseeing external quality management.
  • Ensuring proper risk assessments and method statements are in place, and that relevant personnel are trained and aware of their responsibilities.
  • Daily liaison with local authorities' highways and street work teams, as needed.
  • Managing stock/materials ordering and supply.
  • Representing the organization professionally to both internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Professional qualification (degree or significant industry experience)
  • Experience in utilities supervision and NRSWA/Highways
  • Intermediate proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, Visio, PowerPoint)
  • Expertise in OSP Telecoms Network Build
  • Knowledge of Fiber Optics Splicing & OTDR testing (Desirable)
  • Familiarity with Blown & traditional cable installation (Desirable)
  • Possession of a full driving license and Fiber Optic/Fiber Installation Certification (Desirable)
  • CSCS Construction Site Supervisor Card (Desirable)
  • Understanding of Telecoms-based project types, Openreach PIA Accreditation, and Civils infrastructure builds
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Good knowledge of the company's products
  • Proficiency in facilitation, able to run workshops and external project meetings
  • Ability to quickly grasp knowledge beyond one's expertise area
