It is an outstanding SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) provision in Southend-on-Sea, dedicated to supporting young people with complex emotional and behavioural needs. They are currently looking for a passionate and dedicated SEMH Art Teacher to join our team long-term, with a view to permanent employment for the right candidate.
As an SEMH Art Teacher at this school, you will be responsible for delivering engaging, differentiated art lessons that inspire and motivate students, particularly those with social, emotional, and mental health needs. You will be an essential part of a multidisciplinary team, working closely with teaching staff, therapists, and support staff to provide a holistic and personalized approach to education.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality art lessons that meet the needs and abilities of students with SEMH challenges.
- Differentiate lessons and adapt teaching methods to ensure all students have access to the curriculum.
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and respectful classroom environment where students feel safe to explore and develop their creative skills.
- Provide one-to-one or small group support as needed, particularly for students who may require additional help in managing their emotions and behaviours.
- Develop students' social and emotional skills through art, using creative techniques to build confidence, self-esteem, and resilience.
- Assess and monitor students' progress, providing regular feedback and reports to parents and senior leaders.
- Collaborate with colleagues, including support staff, SENCOs, and therapists, to ensure a holistic approach to student welfare and education.
Person Specification:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)or equivalent.
- Experience working with students with SEMH, SEN, or challenging behaviours is highly desirable.
- Strong subject knowledge in Art, with the ability to teach a range of techniques and media (drawing, painting, sculpture, digital art, etc.).
- A patient, empathetic, and creative approach to teaching, with the ability to engage and inspire students facing emotional and behavioural challenges.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, parents, and staff.
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
