Head of Management Accounts

Our award-winning client are looking for a qualified accountant to join them as Head of Management Accounts on an interim basis.

This job would suit an ACCA/ACA/CIMA qualified accountant ideally with charity experience, to be responsible for the internal financial reporting, planning and budgeting to maximise the impact and financial sustainability of the organisation

This organisation has been growing massively since the business started and support over 2000 people in over 300 locations across the UK.

The successful individual will be qualified in either ACCA, CIMA or ACA, and have strong technical financial knowledge, excellent communication as well as the ability to create meaningful insights from financial and other data. The role also requires very high level excel skills combined with excellent technical financial accounting knowledge and the ability to simplify and automate processes through effective use of digital tools. Proficiency in Excel with MS PowerPoint/Word is essential.

Job responsibilities:

  • Produce timely accurate, high quality budgets in accordance with the timetable which will include the collation of central and operational budgets to get to a consolidated budget position.
  • Arrange and facilitate internal meetings, discussions and analysis so as to ensure that future projections are robust and timely.
  • Bring together central, divisional and other areas to develop a shared narrative and sets of proposals.
  • Leading and performing management accounting duties with accuracy and attention to detail in accordance with the month end timetable
  • Monthly management accounts including profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements
  • Identify areas of improvement and implement robust processes
  • Review of balance sheet reconciliations
  • Preparation, monitoring and engagement with KPIs around Financial Improvement.
  • Ensure that internal financial reporting is robust, thorough and timely.
  • Collate and interpret information from across the organisation into a cohesive shared narrative.
  • Monitor and highlight leading and lagging indicators, trends as well as other key information to inform discussions.
  • Ensure that reporting, digital tools and support for budget holders are accessible and effective.
  • Support the annual external audit process and ensure that assigned areas of work, analysis and reporting are completed in line with set deadlines.
  • Prepare reporting required by the ONS and the CQC market oversight team.
  • Liaise with divisional, thematic and fundraising colleagues to ensure that reporting to funders is timely, robust and provides for full cost recovery.
  • Support change initiatives across the organisation in a sustainable way.
  • Support and engage with new digital systems across the organisation, particularly where these impact on financial management and internal reporting.
  • Ensure that incoming digital systems incorporate effective reporting and drive good decision making.
  • Engage as required with the internal audit function.
  • Participate in cross-functional projects as a financial representative.
  • Actively participate in identifying risks and opportunities vs objectives.
  • Manage a small team within Management Accounts
