We are seeking a facilities technician to join our Estates team in Uxbridge. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing and coordinating efficient and effective site services, ensuring the highest quality standards in a busy further education college environment. This role involves the upkeep and general maintenance of the site's fixtures, fittings, building fabric, and services.
- Location: Uxbridge / Hayes.
- Job Type: Full-time (36 hours per week, 52 weeks per year).
- Salary: £29,672 to £31,538 per annum.

Day-to-day of the role:
- Undertake minor repairs to walls, such as filling and decoration, and make good rooms after stripping out.
- Conduct window and door repairs, including replacing locks, handles, closers, and stops.
- Perform carpet and vinyl repairs, as well as wall fixings for shelving, clocks, blinds, and fixture hanging.
- Execute basic plumbing tasks, such as unblocking toilets and sinks, installing taps, tiling, and grouting.
- Carry out furniture repairs, moves, and assembly.
- Provide solutions to maintenance issues and attend to urgent health and safety hazards.
- Carry a site radio at all times and respond promptly to calls for assistance.
- Conduct routine inspections of the campus, reporting any health and safety hazards or maintenance issues.
- Supervise maintenance contractors on college campuses alongside the Estates team.
- Perform weekly fire alarm tests and ensure all buildings and rooms are secured after use.
- Support the college's carbon reduction programme and energy-saving initiatives.
- Participate in personal staff development programmes and assist the wider Estates & Security teams as needed.
- Be willing to be a designated first aider (training provided).
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Experience in general maintenance and repair work.
- Good problem-solving skills and ability to provide solutions to maintenance issues.
- Strong awareness of health and safety regulations.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Willingness to participate in staff development and training programmes.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Minimum of 3 years recent experience of working in a facilities role / similar role
- Experience of working in an educational environment
- Able to work effectively within a team
- Ability to understand and ensure compliance with Health and Safety at Work Act
- Practical experience of completing routine physical tasks and minor maintenance work
- Ability to demonstrate an understanding of Equality and Diversity and Safeguarding
- Satisfactory level of literacy and numeracy skills
- Experience in job hazard analysis
- Ability to work on own initiative
- Good working knowledge of email

Essential requirements are:
- A full clean driving licence.
- Good level of education.
- First Aider certificate or willing to train as a first aider.
- IOSH- Working Safely qualification or equivalent (desirable).
- To have lived int he UK the last five years and to have a clear Enhanced DBS. (we can run this for you).
