You will be working with a specialist school that is dedicated to providing a nurturing and supportive educational environment for young people aged 11-19 years old who may have a range of learning difficulties, including autism and associated needs. This school is situated in a serene location and offers a comprehensive and individualised curriculum to meet each unique need of each student. This school has a combination of tailored academic programs, therapeutic interventions and life skills training which empowers the students to achieve their full potential and prepare for a fulfilling future. The school features state-of-the-art facilities, including modern classrooms, expansive outdoor spaces such as gardening facilities and animals on site.

Your new role

  • Provide 1:1 Support: LSA offers one-on-one support to children with SEN, ensuring they can integrate as fully as possible in class activities and make progress. They may run specific programs and activities tailored to individual learning and social needs.
  • Individual Education Plans (IEP): LSAs implement targets from pupils' IEP's in collaboration with class teachers and the Senior Leadership Team.
  • Resource Modification: They create or modify resources (e.g., worksheets, visual prompts) based on advice from SLT, Educational Psychologists, or other outside agencies.
  • Inclusive Environment: LSA helps maintain an inclusive learning environment across the school, both inside and outside the classroom.
  • Positive Reinforcement: They provide positive reinforcement, praise, and rewards to pupils, encouraging their participation and engagement.
  • Small Group Activities: LSA's facilitate inclusion in small group activities with peers and support interaction between students.
  • Professional Development: They attend relevant training and meetings to stay up-to-date with developments in working with children with special educational needs.
  • Feedback and Reporting: LSA's provide regular feedback to the SLT and relevant outside agencies regarding pupils' difficulties and progress.

They also contribute to pupils' annual reviews.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Experience working with young people and special educational needs is desirable.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Work creatively and flexibly with students with special educational needs to promote autonomy, independence, personal development and employability for all students.
  • Form and promote positive relationships with staff, students, parents, the local community and outside agencies
  • Compassionate and patient approach
