Are you an experienced Construction Teacher passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people? Do you have experience working with students who face Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) challenges and display complex behaviours? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you!
Dunbar Education is working closely with a well-established SEN provision supporting secondary-aged pupils with SEMH needs and behavioural challenges. We are seeking a resilient and compassionate Construction Teacher to deliver engaging lessons that inspire confidence and practical skills. This role focuses on helping students develop practical, hands-on skills in construction that can lead to future employment and vocational opportunities, while also building their confidence and resilience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Teach Construction to secondary-aged students, designing lessons that provide a balance of theoretical knowledge and practical skills across various construction disciplines, such as carpentry, masonry, and basic plumbing.
- Adapt lessons to suit students with diverse learning needs, creating an inclusive classroom environment that caters to varying abilities and promotes success for all.
- Implement classroom management techniques that maintain a safe and structured environment, managing behaviours effectively and positively.
- Engage students in hands-on projects, helping them to understand the relevance of construction skills in the real world and encouraging a sense of pride and accomplishment.
- Collaborate closely with support staff to offer individualised support, tailoring your teaching approach to help each student overcome barriers to learning.
- Foster a non-judgemental, patient, and supportive atmosphere that allows students to feel respected, understood, and motivated to participate.
- Provide ongoing feedback to students, highlighting their strengths and identifying areas for improvement to encourage steady progress.
Requirements:
- Previous experience teaching students with SEMH needs and behaviour challenges, ideally within a SEN setting or similar environment.
- In-depth knowledge and expertise in construction practices, with the ability to teach a range of skills and adapt to students' specific needs.
- A non-judgemental, patient, and empathetic approach to teaching, with a commitment to supporting young people in challenging circumstances.
- A DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one prior to starting.
- Strong classroom management skills with a focus on creating a structured and positive learning environment that prioritises safety and engagement.
