Your new company

In your new role as a quantity surveying assistant, you will be joining a large organisation in the Elgin area. In this role you can work on a hybrid basis, with at least 2 days working in the office with the team. This role is an initial 6-month contract with a likely extension, which may create the opportunity to join the organisation on a permanent basis. This is a full-time contract, with 37 hours per week working across Monday to Friday.

Your new role

In your new role you will have key responsibilities in the commercial department, which contributes to the overall success of the wider team and projects they are working on. The Quantity Surveying Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting the development of a high-quality, efficient, and effective Quantity Surveying Service within the department. Working closely with the Quantity Surveying Manager, the assistant ensures that all tasks are carried out in line with the agreed priorities, particularly concerning building maintenance contracts. Key responsibilities include assisting in the administration of Quantity Surveying tasks as delegated to you, managing the cost aspects of projects from start to finish, and providing timely and accurate information to the wider team and the Quantity Surveying Manager. Additionally, the Quantity Surveying Assistant is expected to undertake necessary training and contribute to the training and development of other staff members in the team.

What you'll need to succeed

The ideal candidate for this position should have substantial post-qualification experience in a contractor's Quantity Surveying environment, preferably related to housing maintenance or the maintenance of commercial buildings. They should possess appropriate qualifications to HNC/HND level (or equivalent) in Quantity Surveying, along with a current CSCS card or equivalent. In addition, you must have strong IT skills, especially in Word & Excel, and be able to communicate effectively in person, on email and over the phone. You must also have good analytical and numerical skills. The role demands a willingness to work in a demanding position that requires a flexible approach, the ability to accept delegation, and strong organisational skills. Proven experience in agreeing on interim valuations and final accounts would also be advantageous.

What you'll get in return

This role offers a competitive salary of £36,500 and the provision to work the contractual 37 hours via a flexible and hybrid working agreement with the ability to work at home 2 to 3 days per week. Initially, this role will be paid hourly via Hays as a temporary assignment for up to 6 months with an option to progress into a permanent role. You will join a busy and supportive team and play a key role in the commercial delivery of a range of projects across the Moray area.
