Donor Finance Officer

Robertson Bell is delighted to partner with an impactful international charity to recruit an Donor Finance Officer on a permanent basis. This role provides an exciting opportunity to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment, where you will gain invaluable experience in managing donor finances and supporting global projects, with significant room for professional growth as you support the financial accounting function.

In this role, you will:

  • Take ownership of donor financial reporting, assisting with the review, correction, and approval of financial reports from international partners. Work closely with Programme Managers to ensure the accuracy and timeliness of these reports, facilitating the smooth release of donor funds.
  • Assist with month-end tasks, including balance sheet reconciliations and payables, while contributing to the overall financial accounting function within the donor finance team.
  • Engage in detailed financial analysis, reviewing reports from partners, and preparing templates for upcoming reporting cycles. This role is crucial during the first month of each quarter when the workload is heaviest due to report reviews and approvals.
  • Play a key role in training new partners on financial reporting requirements and processes, including providing guidance on USD balance sheets and using Excel-based templates.
  • Contribute to process enhancements during quieter periods, support special requests from the programmes team, and broaden your involvement in the charity's financial activities.

Based in Central London, this position offers a hybrid working arrangement, requiring just two days per week in the office. You will benefit from a competitive pension, generous annual leave, and the chance to contribute to life-changing projects worldwide.

The Ideal Candidate will:

  • Ideally, be a part-qualified Accountant or be interested in pursuing a qualification. A basic understanding of accounting principles is beneficial, though not essential.
  • Have strong Excel skills, including proficiency in VLOOKUPs, PivotTables, and Sum-Ifs.
  • Have experience working with international teams and an understanding of cultural differences is highly desirable. Prior experience in donor finance or programme finance is a significant advantage.
  • Have a background working within the charity sector, particularly with INGOs, is ideal. An understanding of the unique challenges of working in non-corporate environments is essential.
  • Be a proactive individual with a desire to learn more about international development and support partners in achieving their goals.
