Due to continued success and future business growth, we have an exciting opportunity for a Group Architectural Assistant to join our Group Architectural team based in Wakefield, West Yorkshire.

The Role

Joining our team as Group Architectural Assistant, you will be at the forefront of the design process at Avant Homes. Working closely with the Group Head of Architectural Design you will support the Group Technical, Land and Planning team to develop and implement design solutions for site layout proposals across the entire operating company.

This is a fantastic opportunity to support the delivery of sites from Bid, through Planning and ultimately Construction on site, playing a vital role in the delivery of the Group business plan and future growth ambition.

Key duties and requirements

You will also be responsible for but not limited to;

  • Producing architectural site layouts, working closely with the Regional Planning Managers and Regional Technical Managers throughout the Pre-Development process and determining site specific requirements by preparing constraints plans and proofing layouts.
  • The preparation of plans, sections and elevations to be included within planning applications.
  • The preparation of presentation drawings including, coloured plans, design diagrams and consultation boards whilst understanding all technical aspects of development schemes, identifying opportunities through considered design mentality.
  • Assisting the Group Head of Architectural Design in maintaining the Group plotting standards and housetype portfolio, helping to establish and maintain the procedures shared with the regional businesses.
  • Ensuring all designs are produced in accordance with the constraints of local planning authorities as provided by the Regional Planning Manager.
  • Ensuring all layouts are designed to meet the Avant design standard, working closely with the development teams to ensure house types and layouts maximise the demands and opportunities of the local housing market.
  • Liaison with internal and external consultants to deliver a comprehensive design proposal.
  • Attending public events and consultations with planning committees where necessary.
  • Responsible for the delivery and management of key drawings, reports, assessments and analysis in relation to design proposals
  • Ensuring that all designs are value-driven and are commercially optimal for the region to achieve its business strategy plan.
  • Providing support where necessary to the Group Design Manager on all layout matters.

Who are we looking for?

To be successful as our Group Architectural Assistant, you will either hold a qualification in an Architectural discipline or be able to demonstrate your ability and skillset through working within a similar role previously.

The primary responsibility of Group Architectural Assistant is to support the delivery and management of the Proposed Site Layouts for the Group Development team, supporting regional business at the varying stages of the development process therefore, previous experience working on residential housing schemes, either in an Architectural practice or a residential developer is also desirable.

To be considered for this role you will also possess:

  • Excellent communication, innovation and time management skills along with the ability to use your own initiative.
  • A problem-solving mindset in order to develop design strategies.
  • Working experience of AutoCAD and its latest versions is essential.
  • Extensive knowledge and application of Microsoft Office, (Word, Excel & PowerPoint) and Photoshop is essential, working knowledge of Revit is desirable.
  • The ability to sketch by hand.
  • Excellent report writing skills to prepare Design Statements, and other associated planning documentation.
  • Project management and organisational skills are also key to success within this role.
