SEND Teacher (KS3 Complex Needs)
Location: Wallington, SM6 7NH
Salary: Teacher Main Scale (Outer London Area) £34, 514 - £46,001 per annum + SEN Allowance £2,539 Salary determined on appointment plus an SEN allowance. (Depending on qualifications and experience)
Hours: Full time, 25 hours per week, 52 weeks per year
The Academy is an outstanding special school situated at the edge of Beddington Park in Wallington. It has 230 students aged 7-18 with a wide range of ability levels and additional learning needs, including complex needs. There are plans for the school to move to a purpose-built Free School in 2024.
The Academy strives to develop the full potential of everyone within its school community and provides a broad and wide-ranging curriculum. Enriching experiences are offered such as residential and curriculum visits and students can access a full range of therapies on site.
The Role

Teachers work primarily, but not exclusively, within one of three different teaching pathways. Skills for Further Education, Skills for Work and Skills for Life. Details of their pathways can be found on the website.
Skills and Qualifications
- Qualified Teacher Status
- A good degree, 2.2 or above in the relevant subject advertised.
- Recent successful experience of working with and/or teaching pupils with special educational needs within any school setting including mainstream schools, teaching a variety of subjects.
- 2 years' experience
- Proven ability to demonstrate excellent classroom practice.
- Proven ability in working successfully as part of a staff team
- Evidence of knowing how to evaluate one's own strengths and weaknesses.
- Evidence of effective partnership working with parents and carers, evidence of successful multi-agency working (Desirable)
- Knowledge and experience of current good practice and curriculum developments in special and mainstream education provision.
- Knowledge of how to develop appropriate schemes of work to support student progress.
- Knowledge of child development.
- More extensive knowledge or specific qualification in Art and Photography curriculum area.
- Firm commitment to one's own continuing professional development, knowledge of successful practice in teaching pupils on the autistic spectrum (Desirable)
