The Falkland Islands Government (FIG) is looking for new colleagues to join its existing team at the Royal Falkland Islands Police (RFIP) as Police Inspectors.

An exciting opportunity has arisen with the Royal Falkland Islands Police (RFIP) for a positive and dynamic Inspector, with recent policing experience, to join the team.

The RFIP, with a proud history since 1846, is undergoing dynamic change, offering you the chance to join our policing team. As an Inspector, you'll face diverse challenges, including community policing, leading crime investigations, and enhancing RFIP. You'll collaborate closely with the Joint Services Police Support Unit due to the island's significant military presence.

RFIP strives for the highest professional standards to serve and protect our community. As an Inspector, you'll bring extensive policing experience, lead a team of three sergeants and seventeen constables 24/7, and play a key role in policy development and professionalisation. You'll report to the Chief of Police and may act as Chief in their absence.

The Person

  • Minimum of 5 years' experience as a substantive police sergeant with evidence of having performed the role of acting/temporary inspector for at least 6 months in the previous 5 years or substantive inspector or above within the last five years (military or civilian)
  • Qualified as a Tactical Firearms Commander or be willing to undertake training to perform the role of TFC.
  • Experience of managing operations successfully.
  • Community Policing supervisory experience.
  • Able to work both on their own initiative and as a member of a disciplined team
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Grade C or above in GCSE English and Maths (or equivalent)

The Package

  • Fixed Term Contract, up to 4 years
  • Starting Salary £39,944 - £46,057 per annum (more may be available for an exceptional candidate). In addition, the post also attracts other payments, such as a 7.5% on call allowance, which are is addition to the salary.
  • Eligibility for a 25% gratuity, paid upon successful completion of the contract
  • 30 Days Annual Leave, plus government and public holidays (totalling 41 days leave)
  • Relocation Allowance, to help with moving costs
  • Flights Package, for you and any recognised dependents residing with you at post both at the beginning and end of contract, along with additional annual return flights contingent on the duration of the contract
