Barnsley Hospital NHS Trust are seeking an experienced and dedicated Senior Speech and Language Therapist to join their team at Barnsley Hospital.

This role focuses on providing high-quality clinical expertise for the assessment, diagnosis, and management of adult inpatients on acute wards who present with communication and/or swallowing difficulties, including complex cases.

Main duties of the job

  • Providing expert clinical advice and management for adults with communication and/or swallowing disorders, including those with tracheostomies.
  • Leading the planning and day-to-day operations of the Speech and Language Therapy service in the acute hospital setting.
  • Demonstrating sound clinical judgment and creating individualized care plans, while being flexible with clients, carers, and other professionals.
  • Training and mentoring junior therapists, students, and other healthcare staff, promoting the importance of communication in patient care.
  • Maintaining accurate clinical records, writing reports, and contributing to future service planning through statistical data collection.

To be successful in applying for this role you will need:

  • Degree in speech and language pathology or therapy or equivalent
  • Royal College of Speech and Language Therapist - Certificate to Practice
  • Registration with Health Professions Council
  • Proven post graduate accredited (or equivalent) dysphagia training and experience
  • Previous experience working with adults who have had a stroke

Job description

The post holder will be responsible for the planning and delivery of Occupational Therapy within the designated area. Manage a caseload of service users with complex needs, using evidence based/person centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions.
