Frazer Jones are delighted to be working with an award-winning centre for higher education in Essex to help find them a Reward & Payroll manager in a newly created role reporting to the HRD.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Reward professional looking to step up into a management role, or even someone already at this level looking for the chance to work somewhere professional but flexible, with amazing benefits and work-life balance.

The role will be managing the 5 strong team who look after Payroll, Reward, and Pensions for the institution, but is very much a hands-on role for someone who likes to be fully involved.

What they can offer is a competitive salary for an organisation of their kind, over 6 weeks holiday, hybrid working (2 days on site), a very generous pension (up to 20%) and an excellent suite of benefits. Plus a standard 36 hour working week, and an amazing team to be part of!

Duties will include;

  • Managing the reward function, including leading on salary reviews and reporting on and making recommendations regarding to areas such as; gender pay gaps, equal pay audits and other equality-related work.
  • Review, audit, and develop the benefits package, maintain competitiveness and reflecting the institution's values.
  • Work closely with and advise senior stakeholders relating to pay, pay negotiations, pension, and reward matters, including dealing with Trade Union when appropriate.
  • Lead on and manage the monthly payroll ensuring that the payroll service is fully compliant with all financial and statutory requirements.
  • Manage the salary sacrifice schemes.
  • Working with external Tax specialists, offer advice and guidance on any tax related issues as they arise, including tax implications of paying students, taxable benefits, and overseas working.
  • Provide information and guidance related to Pension schemes rules, acting as the pensions subject matter expert for the institution.
  • Ensure compliance with the auto enrolment, enrolment renewals and contractual obligations to pension providers.

What they are looking for is an experienced Reward Analyst/Advisor or Reward Manager who has a solid understanding on benchmarking, pensions, benefits, and also experience working with payroll. The payroll team are experienced and so this won't require you to actively participate in running the payroll, but you will oversea it and act as an escalation point, so a good knowledge of how a payroll runs is essential. Experience of Cascade is also advantageous.

Idea candidates will have worked in a similar role within a publicly funded organisation and have experience dealing with Trade Unions.
