Employee Relations Advisor

As an Employee Relations (ER) Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the organisation's approach to employee relations by fostering a positive, fair, and productive work environment. You will provide expert guidance on complex ER issues, drive consistent HR policies and procedures, and act as a trusted advisor to managers and employees on all matters relating to workplace conduct, conflict resolution, and compliance with employment laws.

**Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary point of contact for all employee relations matters, including grievances, disciplinary actions, performance issues, and workplace conflict.
  • Advise managers and leaders on employee relations best practices, ensuring consistency and compliance with internal policies and employment law.
  • Lead investigations into complex ER cases, ensuring timely, thorough, and legally compliant resolution.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of employment legislation and case law; update internal policies and processes as needed.
  • Design and deliver training on ER topics including performance management, absence management, and conflict resolution.
  • Monitor and analyse ER trends and metrics; provide reports and insights to senior leadership to inform strategic HR decisions.
  • Support organisational change initiatives (e.g., restructures, TUPE, redundancies) ensuring proper consultation and legal compliance.
  • Collaborate with Legal, Compliance, and other HR functions to mitigate risks and maintain a positive workplace culture.

**Key Requirements

Essential:

  • Proven experience (5+ years) in employee relations or a generalist HR role with significant ER exposure.
  • Strong knowledge of employment law and HR best practices.
  • Demonstrated experience handling complex investigations, grievances, and disciplinary procedures.
  • Excellent interpersonal, influencing, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • High degree of emotional intelligence and professional judgement.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and handle sensitive situations with confidentiality.

Desirable:

  • CIPD Level 5 or above (or equivalent qualification).
  • Experience in unionised environments.
  • Previous work in fast-paced sectors (e.g., retail, manufacturing, healthcare, tech).
  • Familiarity with HRIS tools and case management systems
