We are seeking a dynamic, enthusiastic, and forward-thinking graduate to the post of Head of Psychology, starting January or April 2025. The successful candidate will be an inspirational teacher with a proven track record of obtaining excellent outcomes for pupils at A Level. This is an exciting opportunity to either progress to running a department or for an existing Head of Department to embrace a new challenge within an outstanding educational setting.

Day to Day of the role

  • Provide dynamic and creative leadership to the Psychology department.
  • Motivate and support pupils and colleagues, instilling a curiosity for learning.
  • Design an engaging and academically stimulating Psychology programme.
  • Engage pupils in Psychology within and outside the classroom.
  • Contribute to the wider co-curricular life of the school.
  • Drive co-curricular activities within and across departments.
  • Ensure high-quality teaching and learning within the department.
  • Plan the curriculum and maintain up-to-date Schemes of Work.
  • Advise on staff appointments and support the professional development of departmental colleagues.
  • Manage departmental budgets and resources.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Good honours degree in a relevant field.
  • Relevant teaching experience with the ability to teach Psychology to A Level/Oxbridge level.
  • Strong academic record and understanding of academic disciplines within the department.
  • Excellent pedagogical knowledge and skills.
  • Well-developed communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good working knowledge of IT, including the Microsoft Office suite.
  • PGCE, QTS, or equivalent teaching qualification (desirable).
  • Experience in a leadership role or running extra-curricular activities (desirable).
