The North York Moors National Park Authority looks after and promotes one of the most spectacular parts of the British Isles. We are now seeking an Area Manager to join us on a full-time, permanent basis and oversee our ranger services within the northern part of the National Park.

The Role

As an Area Manager, you will lead one of our Area Ranger Teams to deliver a range of public access and recreation-related work, plans and projects.

You'll oversee a team consisting of Area Rangers, Maintenance Rangers, L4 Apprentices, Assistant Rangers and Voluntary Rangers, all of whom contribute to the development and delivery of area-based plans and cross-organisational projects.

Ensuring public enjoyment and conservation of the park, you'll foster relationships with local communities, land managers, stakeholders and partners, and identify potential sources of funding to support the delivery of projects and the planned work programme. You'll also need to be visible across the organisation and contribute to effective corporate management as a senior and experienced professional.

Additionally, you will:

- Manage the Volunteer Ranger Programme
- Ensure the Ranger Service is compliant and up to date with relevant Health & Safety requirements

About You

To be considered as an Area Manager, you will need:

- Experience of maintaining an overview of a diverse portfolio of work, setting strategic direction and operational priorities
- Experience of effectively leading, managing and motivating geographically dispersed teams, including volunteers and within a medium-to-large-sized organisation
- Experience of budget setting, management and monitoring
- Experience of delivering detailed work programmes and projects in a practical context
- Experience, knowledge and understanding of managing health and safety in teams delivering practical work
- Strong leadership skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Good written and verbal communication skills
