Senior Transport Planner

We are working with a local authority who are looking for a Senior Transport Planner to join the Transport Strategy Service.

Location: Southwest based Local Authority

Set-up: Hybrid / Remote – 1-day a week on-site preferable

Rate: £24.37 via umbrella, inside IR35

Duration: Initial 4-month contract

Hours: Full-time position

Purpose of the job

To support the development of transport strategy and policies of the Authority, and provide transport policy input into wider strategies, such as the Regional Strategy and the Climate and Ecological Strategy and Action Plan.

Responsibilities include:

  • To support the provision and co-ordination of transport evidence to inform the development of transport policies and strategies within the region
  • To manage the development and implementation of highway, rail, bus, cycling and walking projects associated with the region's transport strategy, and support the preparation of business cases for projects, working collaboratively with others to secure the necessary approvals
  • To provide the delivery of transport input into the development of the spatial planning approach for the region and other supporting region-wide plans, strategies, and documents such as Supplementary Planning Documents, Development Briefs and Design Guidance
  • To manage relationships with a range of stakeholders in the development of strategies for specific areas of transport modes
  • To support the preparation of funding bids to Government and other agencies to maximise investment in the region

Requirements:

  • Local Government experience required for initial shortlisting, then thereafter at the client's discretion
  • Experience in the formulation of transport strategies and policies in a local government context
  • Demonstrable experience in the incorporation of transport principles, policy, priorities and schemes in the formulation of major transport scheme appraisal
  • Experience of working on a wide range of transport planning projects
  • Understanding of regional and national transport policies and professional best practice
  • Qualification or experience in relevant project management disciplines and their practical application, including management of cost, risk, schedule, change and requirements
  • Understanding of transport, highway and environmental issues and legislation affecting the operation of a regional transport network
