About the Role...

In this role, the Head of Finance will be responsible for driving forward our financial strategy and achieving business objectives. The successful candidate will be a key point of contact for the Germany Country Finance Team and Senior Management Teams inclusive of our CFO, Group & Shared Service Teams and Country MD.

The Head of Finance will act as an influential and knowledgeable finance executive who leads from the front, makes important business decisions, successfully problem solves, improves processes, and consistently delivers results in line with deadlines.

We are looking for a resilient and forward-thinking individual who pro-actively implements change in order to hit business goals. This role will involve being responsible for high quality financial reporting, management accounts and ensuring all compliance & controls are being followed whilst actively looking to mitigate risk and issues.

Duties & Responsibilities

Results Focused

  • Contribute to the achievement of the company's business objectives by providing advice and guidance on financial strategy

  • Set long term goals for the Finance team, embedding effective controls and robust processes to support on-going growth and financial performance across the business

  • Work in close partnership with the following stakeholders

  • In-country management team to support effective decisions

  • Country Finance Director, CFO and Group Finance to keep them informed, monitor and drive cash flow initiatives, deliver on finance strategies and embed reporting that would enable in-depth analysis of business performance and an understanding of key business drivers

  • Shared Services teams to ensure good financial control, timely close of month end sub-ledgers

  • Build, develop and maintain strong cross-functional partnerships with various departments (e.g. Fuel, Merchandising, Operations and Maintenance, Payroll, HR, etc.)

Accounting & Reporting

  • Support with monthly board reporting and preparation for the submission to the group finance team
  • Responsible for the preparation & review of monthly management accounts from trial balance to financial statements
  • Ensure adherence to IFRS accounting standards & statutory reporting requirements
  • Lead the Balance Sheet reconciliation process
  • Drive country site by site reporting and embed a bottom-up culture to reporting within the finance team

Audit & Controls

  • Lead year end statutory audit process, liaising with external auditors and providing all necessary documentation and evidence
  • Develop and implement an internal audit programme to ensure that the company complies with financial procedures and regulations
  • Deliver the local statutory accounts for all entities to country deadlines, working with PwC to deliver the accounts and the auditors. Work with the in-country legal team to deliver the management reports
  • Carry out all necessary actions to ensure that the company meets its financial and legal obligations
  • Lead on ongoing development of finance processes and controls
  • Collaborate with the Transactional Shared Services Team to ensure strong transactional level controls are in place

Acquisitions, Projects & Transformation

  • Lead and be a key point of contact on all country internal finance transformation projects in relation to RTR (record to report) changes
  • Lead on acquisition and integration projects
  • Challenge existing and develop new financial processes to ensure timely and accurate reporting, creating workflow efficiencies where possible
  • Continuous financial and operational improvement
  • Support improvement initiatives for SAP development

People & Performance Management

  • Direct and motivate the finance team and provide them with the resources & tools they need to be successful
  • Establish and implement a training program for new and existing colleagues
  • Drive the improvement in quality of work and overall skillset of the team
  • Provide knowledgeable & factual advice and guidance to the team to enable them to achieve their objectives
  • Enable the team to strive for accuracy of site by site P&Ls
  • Responsible for performance management and recruitment

Qualifications / Experience:

  • ACA/ACCA/CIMA Qualified
  • 15+ Years Post Qualified Experience
  • Experience in working with large businesses (£300m +)

  • Comprehensive understanding of IFRS16 accounting treatment

  • Strong relationship and communication skills
  • Strong MS Office skills including Excel, Word and PowerPoint and experience of SAP and Qube desirable
