Job Description:

Are you a Graduate or Assistant Quantity Surveyor looking to take the next step in your career? My client is seeking a dynamic and skilled individual to join the team in Hemel Hempstead. In this role, you will play a crucial part in delivering high-quality services to clients.

Key Responsibilities:

Project Planning and Management:

  • Conduct pre-start meetings to review projects with the Project Manager and Operations Manager.
  • Maintain daily communication with the Project Manager regarding labour numbers.
  • Analyse project budgets against actual build costs for review.
  • Generate and send weekly reports to stakeholders.

Procurement and Cost Management:

  • Separate and allocate packages and trades.
  • Scope and commercially manage subcontractor packages for projects up to £50K.
  • Compare materials to ensure the best value for money on specified products.
  • Evaluate plant options to ensure cost-effectiveness.
  • Create orders for subcontractors when outsourcing labour or services.
  • Prepare and submit payment applications to clients, then inform the accounts department for invoicing.
  • Keep the live cost tracker updated for specific projects.
  • Provide updates on the supply chain status.

Material and Equipment Management:

  • Perform material take-offs including measurements.
  • Provide the Project Manager with a detailed material checklist, including call-off materials.
  • Arrange off-hire of plant and equipment when not in use.

Client Engagement:

  • Build and maintain strong client relationships, acting as a point of contact for project-related discussions and queries.

Team Collaboration:

  • Support other team members, including senior quantity surveyors and other managers, to achieve project objectives.

Regulatory Compliance:

  • Stay updated on industry regulations and best practices, ensuring that projects comply with legal and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications:

  • BSc (Hons) in Quantity Surveying or a related field.
  • RICS accreditation or desirable to work toward chartered status is essential.
  • 2 + years of experience in a Quantity Surveying role.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Proven success working on residential projects
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation abilities.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality work.
  • Knowledge of construction contracts (JCT)
