Laboratory Analyst

Veritas Laboratory Services Ltd is seeking an experienced Laboratory Analyst to join our team at our Bartley laboratory in Southampton. This is full time on-site position (35hrs/week), Monday to Friday between 08:00 and 16:00. Salary up to £26,000 per annum temp to perm - 3 months probatory contract.

Veritas Laboratory Services Ltd (VLS Ltd), founded in 2022, is a privately owned, independent analytical laboratory based in Southampton, Hampshire, UK. Laboratory specialises in analysis of Dioxins/Furans, PCBs, PFAS (including PFOS and PFOA testing) and other Persistent Organic Pollutants in environmental samples such as: soil, ash, sediment, sludge and waters (effluent, surface and ground).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform technical tasks in line with VLS Ltd procedures.
  • Oversee day-to-day instrument operations.
  • Calibrate all laboratory equipment as required.
  • Conduct and record routine instrument maintenance.
  • Process, calculate, and verify analytical results.
  • Assist with sample preparation for various analyses (method development part).
  • Conduct regular QC reviews.
  • Report any anomalies or QC issues to the quality manager, ensuring accurate documentation.
  • Suggest procedural improvements when errors or recurring problems arise.
  • Train and assess colleagues in VLS Ltd procedures.
  • Ensure all work adheres to UKAS and VLS Ltd QMS standards.
  • Follow VLS Ltd safety policies, with particular attention to protective clothing requirements.
  • Maintain high housekeeping standards.
  • Perform any other reasonable tasks as required for the role.

Person Specification:

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with GC-MS QQQ and GC-MS, including troubleshooting and maintenance.

Experience in method development and validation is a plus, as is the ability to assist in other areas of the lab as needed.

Desired Skills:

  • Minimum 1-year experience as a Laboratory Analyst.
  • Familiarity with Agilent GC-MS QQQ and MassHunter software is a plus.
  • Strong organizational and methodical skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Capable of working independently while being a strong team player.
  • Able to meet tight deadlines effectively.
